Harvey Eugene BOWMAN , Sr.1737, son of Lawrence Lafayette BOWMAN and Alice Elizabeth (Ellie) RECTOR, was born on 11 August 1916 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 15 February 2008 at the age of 91 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in St. Peter's Lutheran Church cemetery, north of Conover, Catawba County, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: CLAREMONT - Harvey Eugene Bowman Sr., 91, of Claremont, went heavenly home to be with family and friends Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born Aug. 11, 1916, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Lawrence LaFayette and Alice Elizabeth Rector Bowman. He was a lifelong member and a direct descendent of the founders of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Conover and retired from the furniture business. Mr. Bowman served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a dedicated, loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and friend to many people. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Jean Bowman; son, Harvey E. Bowman Jr.; six brothers, Arthur, Floyd, Ray, Kirby, Glenn and Clarence Bowman; and four sisters, Bessie Miller, Minnie and Bertha Bowman and Clara White. Survivors include his wife of 72 years, married June 1, 1935, by the Rev. Walter P. Hunsucker, Virginia Ella Sigmon Bowman of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley Ann Bowman Shell and husband, Glenn S. Shell Sr., of Claremont; daughter-in-law, Billie Jo (Jodie) Norman Bowman of Claremont; two grandchildren, Glenn S. Shell Jr. of Raleigh and Tracy Shell Mashburn and husband, Andrew, of Newton; two stepgrandchildren, Andrew and Anna Norman of Lincolnton; one great-grandchild, Katelyn Brianna Auman of Hickory; sister, Ora VanHorne of Conover; and sister-in-law, Madgelene S. Bowman of Conover. A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Conover. The Revs. Paul D. Birner and Delbert Roth will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., prior to the service, at the church. Betty Jean BOWMAN1737 was born on 21 December 1935 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died unexpectedly on 20 January 2002 at the age of 66 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. She was buried in St. Peter's Lutheran Church cemetery, north of Conover, Catawba County, NC. Born December 21, 1935 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of Harvey E. Bowman, Sr. and Virginia Sigmon Bowman of Claremont. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1953 and retired as an operator from Central Telephone Company in Hickory. She was a life-long member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Conover. Survivors include: her father: Harvey E. Bowman, Sr. of Claremont, NC; her mother: Virginia Sigmon Bowman of Claremont, NC; a sister & brother-in-law: Shirley B. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 24, 2002 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. The Revs. Paul D. Birner and Paul D. Harvey Eugene BOWMAN Jr was born on 16 January 1953 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died after a short battle with cancer on 14 August 2006 at the age of 53 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in St. Peter's Lutheran Church cemetery, north of Conover, Catawba County, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: CLAREMONT - Harvey Eugene Bowman Jr., 53, of Claremont, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, after a short battle with cancer. Born Jan. 16, 1953, in Catawba County, he was the son of Harvey Eugene Bowman Sr. and Virginia Sigmon Bowman. Mr. Bowman was a lifetime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Conover. He retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation after 30 years of service and was a member of Rocky Face Rangers Camp 1948 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans of Alexander County. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jean Bowman; maternal grandparents, Robert Lawrence and Flossie Deal Sigmon; and paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Alice Rector Bowman. Survivors include his loving wife, Jodi Simmerman Bowman; his parents, Harvey Bowman Sr. and Virginia Sigmon Bowman; two children, Andrew and Anna Norman; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley Bowman Shell and husband, Glenn; nephews, Glenn Shell Jr., Austin Eaker and Robbie and Blaze Dedmon; a niece, Tracy Shell; a great-niece, Katelyn Brianna Auman; mother-in-law, Olivia Sutton; three sisters-in-law, Carol Cook and husband, Walter, Penny Eaker and husband, Jim, and Dawn Dedmon; longtime friends, Jerry Yates and Bill Fox; and many loving friends, neighbors and relatives.
