His obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON - Ralph David Kanupp, 76, of Newton, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at Catawba Valley Medical Center after a period of declining health. Born May 28, 1930, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Amos David and Vertis Catherine Whitener Kanupp. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Mozeley Kanupp. He was a member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, member and past master of Hickory Masonic Lodge 343, charter member of Fairbrook Volunteer Fire Department, served on the board of directors of the fire department and served on the church council. He is survived by a son, D. G. Kanupp of Hickory; three grandchildren, Martin D. "Marty" Kanupp of Spartanburg, S.C., Carly Susanne Kanupp of Raleigh and Katherine Edith Kanupp of Vale; and one sister, Ruth K. Perkins of Newton. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Randall Cauble officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by members of Hickory Lodge 343. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home.
