Born Jan. 14, 1926, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Otis E. and Claudia Huffman Smyre. A member of Augustana Lutheran Church, she was co-owner of Troutman Plumbing and Heating and Troutman Rentals. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Coy Smyre and Uray Smyre, and five sisters, Nannie Bumgardner, Floy Compton, Clara Drum, Peggy Deal and Nell Flessa. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, L.R. "Put" Troutman of the home; a daughter, Gloria Propst and husband, Michael, of Hickory; two sons, Richard Troutman and wife, Linda, and Rosco Troutman and wife, Carolyn, of Hickory; five granddaughters, Melaine Haist of Raleigh, Julia Slattery of Conover, and Wendy Troutman, Rashae Troutman and Heather Troutman of Hickory; two grandsons, Lee Propst and Michael D. Propst of Hickory; two great-granddaughters, Ashlee Propst and Brianna McGnee of Hickory; four great-grandsons, Conor Slattery and Jonathan Slattery of Conover, and Matthew Haist and Michael Haist of Raleigh; and a sister, Alma Beam of Athens, Tenn. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Delbert R. Roth at 2 p.m. Sunday at Augustana Lutheran Church with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at Hickory Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
