3397. Robert Lee HERMAN was born on 25 March 1938 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 18 January 2004 at the age of 65 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in Conover City Cemetery, Conover, Catawba, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: CONOVER - Robert Lee Herman, 65, of Conover, passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Catawba Valley Medical Center after a period of declining health. Born March 25, 1938, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Preston Winfield and Ina Brower Herman. He was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Conover and had retired from General Electric Corp. and was a member of the North Carolina National Guard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin D. Herman. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Simmons Herman of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Alice Herman Merbach and husband, William Sr., of Claremont, Ellen Herman Moldovan and husband, Michael, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Robin Herman Lail and husband, Joseph E., of Conover; six grandchildren, Joshua Herman, Joseph Lail, Tiffany Lail, Shenandoah Merbach, William Merbach Jr. and Jason Merbach and two sisters, Jean Herman Walker of LaQuinta, Calif., and Virginia Herman Hiles of Pass Christian, Miss. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, at Drum Funeral Home Chapel in Conover. The Rev. Anton Lagoutine will officiate and burial will follow in Conover City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Drum Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 2126 St. John's Church Road, Conover, N.C. 28613.
