MARIE WILLIAMS SPENCER
NEWTON -- Marie Williams Spencer, 80, of West F. Street Died March 31, 1997 at her residence. Born May 28, 1916 in Catawba County, she was a daughter of John Avery Williams and Laura Elizabeth Sigmon.

A member of Winklers Grove Baptist Church in Hickory, she was a former co-owner and operator of Spencer Hosiery Mill and was employed by Wester Steer for the last 15 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Lee Spencer, a son, Nelson Spencer, a brother, Burgin Williams, and a sister, Trilby Rink.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Lee Spencer of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Charles Wayne Spencer of Newton, two daughters, Jeanie Spencer Murray of Newton, and Ann Spencer McCrary of Statesville, three sisters, Flossie Beard, Ornah Jordan and Evelyn Cresimore of Maiden. Nine grandchildren and Three great Grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Dale Faulkenbury at 2p.m. Thursday at her church. burial will be in the Church Cemetery. The family will be at the church tonight from 6:30 to 9.
