She died on 25 April 2004 at the age of 82 in Brian Center East, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. She was buried in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Hickory, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Mrs. Edna Huffman Whitworth, 82, of Hickory, died April 25, 2004, at N.C. Lutheran Home. Born Aug. 9, 1921, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Lee J.M. and Jessie Propst Huffman. A member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, she retired as a registered nurse. Mrs. Whitworth was the first operating room supervisor at Catawba Memorial Hospital when it opened in 1968. Later she was operating room supervisor for Hickory Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Whitworth, and an infant son. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James M. and Catherine E. Whitworth Jr. of Hickory and Dr. C. Phillip and Dr. Natasha Hays Whitworth of Forest City; grandchildren, Kristin Whitworth-Oxford, J. Brian Whitworth, Ariel E. Whitworth and Alexander P. Whitworth; great-grandchildren, Samuel M. Whitworth and Catherine Elizabeth Oxford; a brother, Dolan L. Huffman of Hickory; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mrs. Charles (Nellie Jean) Robertson of Newton, Louett H. Nicholson of Sylva, Mrs. William J. (Larue H.) Isenhour, Louise H. Chamblee and Anita H. Morris of Hickory. Mrs. Whitworth is also survived by a number of nieces, grandnieces, nephews and grandnephews. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. David Keck at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church. Intombment will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the church from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service.
