3519. Arthur Leroy PROPST was born on 17 December 1926 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 6 May 2004 at the age of 77 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Hickory, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Arthur Leroy Propst Sr., 77, of Twenty-eighth Avenue, NE, died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at his residence after declining health for several years. Born Dec. 17, 1926, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Albert Lloyd and Myrtle Lail Propst. He retired from Ingold Inc. after 29 years of service and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Propst. Survivors include his wife, Damaris Rich Propst of the home; three daughters, Valerie Reese and husband, Monte, of Mars Hill, Barbara "Bobbie" Propst and friend, Scott Ratley, of Taylorsville, and Dianne Propst of Mountain View; two sons, Arthur "Leroy" Propst Jr. and wife, Deborah, and Nelson Propst of Hickory; a sister, Maxine Byrd of Greenwood, S.C.; two brothers, Foy Propst and Grady Propst of Hickory; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandddaughter. The funeral will be conducted by Pastor Kathy Johnson at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post 48. Pallbearers will be Larry Starnes, Donnie Mask, Robbie Killian, Derrick Propst, Cory White and Edward Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Specialty Metal Works. Damaris was born Sept. 18, 1934 in Madison County to the late Hubert and Jeane Hamlin Rich. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Arthur Leroy Propst, Sr.; daughter, Dianne Propst; and brother, J.C. Rich. She was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church and retired as secretary for Steve Austin, Attorney. Surviving are sons, Arthur "Leroy" Propst, Jr. and wife, Deborah, of Hickory, and Nelson Propst, of Hickory; daughters, Valerie Reese and husband, Monte, of Mars Hills, and Barbara "Bobbie" Propst, of the home; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Fisher, of Mars Hill; brother, Ronald Rich and wife, Libby, of Mars Hill; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Rich, of Weaverville. Services will be Friday, May 11, at 3 p.m. at St. Johns United Methodist Church with the Reverend Steve McLain officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
