5276. Frances HUFFMAN was born on 2 October 1926 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 28 January 2012 at the age of 85 in Conover Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Conover, NC. She was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: CONOVER Frances Huffman Austin, 85, of Newton, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at Conover Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong resident of Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Fred Edward Huffman and Lois Pauline Bollinger. She was a member of Beth Eden Lutheran Church. She retired from Walton Knitting Mills. She loved her flower and vegetable gardens and was an avid basketball fan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Woodrow Davis Austin, and a brother, Paul Huffman. Survivors include her son, David Walter Austin and wife, Priscilla, of Mocksville; her daughter, Elaine Austin Brown and husband, Mark, of Durham; grandchildren, Jason Franklin Austin and wife, Erin, of Raleigh, Heather Perry of Mocksville, Matthew Tyler Austin of Apex, and Andrew Davis Austin of Mocksville; great-grand-children, Emma Nicole Laxton and Madelyn Raine Laxton; a sister, Rebecca Turner of Reidsville; sisters-in-law, Jewell Austin and Betty Austin; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at Beth Eden Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Bill Mims and Rev. Randall Cauble officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The Austin family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 31, 2012, at Drum Funeral Home. Frances HUFFMAN and Woodrow Davis AUSTIN were married estimated 1945. Woodrow Davis AUSTIN, son of Arthur L. AUSTIN and Florence May MULLINAX, was born on 20 July 1924 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 2 March 2010 at the age of 85 in Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON - Woodrow Davis Austin, 85, of Newton, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at his residence. He was born July 20, 1924, in Catawba County to the late Arthur Leroy Austin and Mae Mullinax Austin. Mr. Austin was a graduate of Startown High School and Clevenger's Business College in Newton; treasurer of the Fairbrook Fire Department, Hickory Fire Department Station 5; and a member of Hickory American Legion Post 48. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Pacific Theater in World War II. Mr. Austin was a retired master mechanic for the General Electric Company. He was a member of Beth Eden Lutheran Church and an avid gardener. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Fred Austin, Paul Austin, Felix Austin and Bill Austin, and sisters, Evelyn Austin and Mildred McDaniel. Mr. Austin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances Huffman Austin; daughter, Elaine Austin Brown and husband, Dr. Mark Brown, of Durham; son, David Austin and wife, Priscilla, of Mocksville; grandchildren, Jason Austin and wife, Erin, Matthew Austin, Andrew Austin, and Heather Perry; great-grandchildren, Emma Laxton and Madelyn Laxton; and brother, Harvey L. Austin and wife, Jewell, of Brunswick, Ohio. A service of remembrance will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2010, at Beth Eden Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Dr. Jane Mitcham and Chad Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park, with military honors conducted by members of American Legion Post 48.
