10. George HERMAN was born on 17 November 1797 in Lincoln (Catawba County), North Carolina.50,57,58,59,60 near Long Shoal Creek He signed a will on 7 February 1862 in Alexander County, North Carolina. WILL OF GEORGE HERMAN, JR.

In the name of God Amen, I GEORGE HERMAN of the county of Alexander & State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and memory But Knowing that all men must die, do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows; 1st I Will my body a descent burial and my Soul to God who gave it.
2nd I Will that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid out of my estate
3rd I Will to NOAH HERMAN'S living heirs, JAMES one dollar, JEFFERSON HERMAN one dollar, FRANKLIN HERMAN one dollar, ROXAN HERMAN one dollar their father's full part of my estate
4th I Will that all the Lands that I gave to my sons & daughters all go equal valueation.
5th I Will to my daughter NANCY HERMAN one cow & calf two beds & furniture one Set of Cook vessels.
6th I Will my wife CATHERINE HERMAN two beds and furniture, one cow & calf, all the hogs & Sheep to my wife and daughter NANCY, also the Household furniture to be my wife and daughter NANCY'S during life or as long as my wife remains my wife, remains my widow, at her death or marrige the property to be turned over to my heirs, the children of my now living wife, also all the grain on hand and all the growing crop to belong to my wife and daughter NANCY.
7th I Will that the balance of my land that I have not Deeded to be Sold and that my daughter POLLY MAN'S son ROBERT have one hundred dollars to remain in the hands of my executors to be paid out as the child needs it the balance of the proceeds of Sale to be equally divided among all my heirs share about equal,
I appoint my four sons as my executors, MARCUS HERMAN, F. M. HERMAN, L. HERMAN & L. S. HERMAN this 7th day of February 1868.

This is a codicil to my above Will.
I Will that my daughter DORCUS JOSEPHINE have an equal part of my estate with the children of my first wife. I also change the 7th article and give my daughter POLLY a Piece of Land instead of the hundred dollars Willed to her son not to in anywise, Subject to the disposal of her said husband FRANK MAN.

George HERMAN and Mary Magdelene WHITTENBURG were married before 1834. Mary Magdelene WHITTENBURG was born on 2 October 1814 in Alexander County, North Carolina. She died on 14 September 1894 at the age of 79 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She was buried in Old St. Paul's Church Cemetery, Newton, Catawba County, NC. Aged 79y 11m 12d

William Henry HERMAN was born about 1840. His record in the War Between the States is as follows:61 HERMAN. WILLIAM HENRY, Private, Co. C, 28th Regiment, NC Troops - Resided in Catawba County where he enlisted on March 15, 1862. Died in hospital at Richmond, Virginia, July 8, 1862, of" diarrhoea ch[ronic]." He died on 8 July 1862 at the age of 22 in Richmond, VA during the Civil War. (not living in family during 1860 census)
