Born March 7, 1919, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Clara Etta Sigmon Price and Glenn Price. She was retired from Adams-Millis Hosiery and was a member of Highland United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Ernest Loyd Witherspoon; three sisters, Betty Lou Price, Pearl P. Hollar and Ruth P. Jenkins; and four brothers, Roy Sigmon Price, Clyde Price, Floyd Price and Clarence Price. Survivors include her daughter, Kay Price Witherspoon Carswell of Hickory; two sisters, Clarene Price Gregg of Hickory and Edith Price Turner of Charlotte; a sister-in-law, Polly G. Price of Hickory; a granddaughter, Glenda Carswell Pitts and her husband, Brian Pitts, of Hickory; three grandsons, Allen L. Carswell and wife, Kim, James H. Carswell and wife, Dana, and James J. “Jimmy” Carswell, all of Hickory; seven great-grandchildren, Asheli Carswell, Chelsea Carswell, Stephanie Carswell, Cody Gragg, Dallas Gragg, Blaze Keaton Carswell and Gabriel Carswell, all of Hickory. The funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Highland United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jim Church officiating. Interment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Cody Gragg, Dallas Gragg, Robert Price, Roy Price, Alton Simmons and Jack Simmons. The family will receive friends tonight, Thursday, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home.
