Clyde Washington WILKIE, son of George W. WILKIE and Anna SMITH, was born on 6 May 1911 in Caldwell County, North Carolina. He died on 20 August 2005 at the age of 94 in Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, Lenoir, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: VALDESE - Clyde Washington Wilkie, 94, of Eastview Street, Hudson, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care following a period of declining health. Mr. Wilkie was born May 6, 1911, in Caldwell County to the late George W. Wilkie and Anna Smith Wilkie. He was formerly employed in the furniture industry in quality control and was a member of First Baptist Church in Hudson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Crump Wilkie; and three brothers, Glenn, Leonard and Ralph Wilkie. Survivors include two sons, Wayne Wilkie and his wife, Peggy, of Lenoir and Tommy Wilkie and his wife, Linda, of Granite Falls; two grandsons, Michael Wilkie of Mooresville and Robbie Wilkie and his wife, Carlene, of Granite Falls; a great-granddaughter, Mindy Wilkie; a sister, Wren Thompson of Boone; a sister-in-law, Sadie Wilkie Hedgecock of Melbourne, Fla.; and a brother, Jimmy Wilkie and his wife, Shirley, of Hendersonville, Tenn. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, in Whitnel First Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Revs. Kevin Knight and Stuart White officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael Wilkie, Robbie Wilkie, Larry Wilkie, Jerry Crump, Gary Baker and Clark Austin. Memorials may be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St., NW, Lenoir, N.C. 28645. Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese is serving the Wilkie family.
