Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Betty Yoder McKinnis, 79, of 5725 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington, died Nov. 14, 2005, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. Born Nov. 7, 1926, in Salisbury, she was a daughter of the late J. Yates and Leah Yoder Sr. A member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, she retired from Hickory Public Schools and was a member of Hickory Historical Association and Quilt Club. Survivors include her husband, Ralph P. McKinnis of Wilmington; two sons, David McKinnis and wife, Nancy W. McKinnis, of Wilmington, and William McKinnis and wife, Joyce McKinnis, of Tobaccoville; a daughter, Beverly Harris and husband, Jerry Harris, of Leesburg, Va.; a sister, Nancy Anderson of Chapel Hill; a brother, John Y. Yoder Jr. and wife, Theresa Norris Yoder, of Asheville; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted by Pastors Robert Shoffner and Brian Ballard at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Bass-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Betty McKinnis family.
