4767. Lucy Ellen ECKARD was born on 9 August 1930 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 23 December 2004 at the age of 74 in Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. She was buried in St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hickory, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Lucy Ellen Eckard Caldwell, 74, of Hickory, died Dec. 23, 2004, at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born Aug. 9, 1930, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Frederick Lee and Vertie Price Eckard. A homemaker, she retired as a secretary from Herbert Caldwell Contractor and Carolina Home Builders Inc. She was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Survivors include her husband, William Herbert Caldwell of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, William Eric and Sharon Caldwell of Hickory and William Byron and Cricket Caldwell of Mooresville; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Anne and Barry Taylor of Hickory; a brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Ralph E. and Betty Eckard of Hickory; seven grandchildren, Scarlett Michelle Caldwell of Charleston, S.C., Jason Ryan Stein, Jessica Ariel Caldwell, Tiffany Anne Taylor and Stephani Alexa Caldwell, all of Hickory, and Sean Michael Caldwell and Heather Michelle Caldwell of Mooresville; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA. The Rev. Alice Johnson Curl will officiate and burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church Monday night from 7 to 8:30. Memorials may be made to St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA, 2259 Twelfth Ave., NE, Hickory, N.C. 28601.
