46. Col. Franklin A HOKE (15) was born on 7 Jul 1815 in Lincoln (Catawba) Co., North Carolina. He died on 24 Nov 1895 in Seneca, South Carolina. At age 19 yrs., he went to Lincolnton, N.C. to assist his uncle,
Col. John Hoke, in the mercantile business. After having been with
him for a year and a half, he was sent in company with his cousin,
Joseph Michal, who was merchandising in Spartanburg, S.C. to New
York & Philadelphia tc buy goods. During his residence in Lincolnton,
he was elected clerk of the Superior Court for two terms of four
years each. He served as colonel of the militia in Lincolnton, N.C.
At the beginning of the Civil War he was over conscripticn age; but,
served the Confederacy as a member of the advisory board of
enrolling officers of his district to pass upon the application of
persons for exemption from service. He was a member of the Episcopal
Church and died from parslysis after an illness of four days.

He was married to Mary ZIMMERMAN on 24 Jan 1838 in Lincolnton, Lincoln, North Carolina. Mary ZIMMERMAN was born on 11 Sep 1817. She died on 28 Dec 1889.
