CLAREMONT - Ina Mae Bell Hefner Stewart, 89, of
Hewitt Road, Claremont, died Tuesday, March 30,
2004, at Abernethy Center in Newton. Born Dec. 6,
1914, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of
the late Ernest and Susan Travis Hefner. She was
a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Catawba.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in
death by her husband, George Washington Stewart;
an infant son; sisters, Nellie Shook and Nancy
Taylor; and brother, Fred Hefner. Survivors
include three daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn
and Johnny Galloway of Claremont, Georgia Lyda of
Newton and Peggy and Leon Bell of Catawba; a
sister, Catherine Benfield of Clemmons; a brother
and sister-in-law, Eulan and Josephine Hefner of
Claremont; eight grandchildren, Stewart Galloway,
J. Gregory Galloway, Donald Lyda, Ronald Lyda,
Deanna Lowrance, Dean Lyda, Marcus Bell and
Jennifer Dockery; 17 great-grandchildren; and a
great-great-grandchild. The funeral service will
be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 2, 2004,
at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Catawba. The Rev.
Greg Alms will officiate and burial will follow
in Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8
tonight, Thursday, April 1, at Drum Funeral Home
& Cremations in Conover. At other times the
family will be at the residence of Peggy and Leon
Bell, 3112 Joe Johnson Road, Catawba. Pallbearers
serving the family will be Stewart Galloway, Greg
Galloway, Donald Lyda, Ronald Lyda, Dean Lyda and
Marc Bell. Memorials may be made to Redeemer
Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 187, Catawba, N.C.
28609. The Stewart family has entrusted funeral
arrangements to Drum Funeral Home &

Center, Hickory, North Carolina. He was buried in
Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County,
North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows:
CONOVER - Fred L. Hefner, 79, of Conover, died
Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Catawba Valley
Medical Center. Born July 13, 1924, in Catawba
County, he was the son of the late Ernest Oscar
and Susan Alice Travis Hefner. He had retired
from Conover Chair and was a member of Redeemer
Lutheran Church in Catawba. He was a veteran of
the U.S. Army having served during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by his wife, Mabel Smith Hefner; a
daughter, Barbara Hefner Davis; and two sisters,
Nancy Taylor and Nelle Shook. Survivors include a
granddaughter, Connie Cooke of Conover; a
great-granddaughter, Ashley Paige Cooke of
Conover; a great-grandson, Cory Adam Cooke of
Conover; two sisters, Catherine Benfield of
Clemmonsand Ina Mae Stewart of Claremont; and a
brother, Eulan Hefner of Claremont. The funeral
service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Friday,
March 19, 2004, in the Drum Funeral Home Chapel
in Conover. The Rev. Gregory Alms will officiate
and burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30
tonight, Thursday, March 18 at Drum Funeral Home.
