Matthew
WILSON was born in Ireland in 1717 and came to America
with his wife, Charity Smith Wilson about 1745. They
settled in present-day Catawba County, with a Granville
grant of land in 1755 and were progenitors of the many
Wilson families that populate the county and settled the
U .S.
The

inscription on the stone reads:

in Ireland 1740 and Came to America 1745 - Parents of
Andrew
Wilson, Senior and Grand- parents of Ezekiel Wilson and
Progenitors
of all the Wilsons Buried Here. Erected by Great-
Grandsons Kerr

This

back in July, 1998 shows the shading
by many large trees with roots beginning
to displace, crack and otherwise damage,
these historic gravestones.
