Historical Facts About Tysons Creek
A small group of people met in Tysons Creek schoolhouse on Saturday November 19, 1881 for the purpose of organizing a church. Present were members from several neighboring churches, Elders T. M. Baldwin from the church at Columbia, O. T. Edwards from Moon’s Chapel, J. W. Calder from Bear Creek and Bretheren E. N. McManus, N. E. Phillips, B. D. Phillips and S. A. Jones from Bear Creek, Deacons, J. L. Purvis, and J. A. Scott with Brethren. G. Ellis, T. B. Kidd, J. W. Welch and J. W. Manus from Fall Creek, Oran Welch, A. N. Brooks and Thomas Henry from Brush Creek Church. This group formed a council and elected T. M. Baldwin chairman and J. W. Calder, secretary letters from the following were received as charter members: James Ellis, Laban Ellis, John W. Ellis, Thomas N. Ellis, Emsley Welch, Franklin J. Scott, George N. D. Talley, Laban Moon, Presley Moon, W. Franklin Gribble, all from Fall Creek Church. Burnice B. Phillips and John Grace from Bear Creek Church. The following female members; Jermima Ellis, Nancy Nall, Martha A. Ellis, Malinda A. Moon, Lydia E. Scott, Sarah A. Ellis, Mary A. Gribble, Susan J. Ellis, Nannie E. Welch, Salena A. Ellis from Fall Creek Church, Margaret l. Phillips and Elizabeth D. Ellis from Bear Creek Church.
The newly organized church unanimously elected T. N. Baldwin to serve as their first pastor. John W. Ellis was elected church clerk and B.B. Phillips from Bear Creek Church and F. J. Scott from Fall Creek were the first deacons.
The first house of worship was dedicated on the fifth Sunday in August 1885. Elder Stephen Gilmore brought the message from 1st king 9:3-The schoolhouse had been used as a meeting place until this time.
This building was later moved some distance from the original site and has been remodeled and Sunday School rooms added. Within the past five years considerable renovating has been done to the interior of the church house.

Shepherd, 1904-1906; W. T. Hurst, 1906-1907; G. W. Harmon, 1907-1909; F. G. King; 1909-1910; B. Townsend, 1910-1912; O. W. McManus, 1912 (Supply); K. C. Horner, 1912-1916; V. L. Andrews, 1916-1919; J. S. Johnson, 1919 (Supply); J. L. Powers, 1919-1921; O. B. Mitchell, 1921-1923; J. H. Broome, 1923-1925; E. W. Byerly, 1925-1939; O. D. Moore, 1939-1940; Reid R. Harris, 1940-1943; R. C. Dorsett, 1943-1945 (Supply); Claude Creason, 1945-1950 Claude Johnson, 1950-present pastor.
The present membership numbers 158.
