Will of Edward Edwards

In the name of God Amen, the fifteenth day of August, 1790. I Edward Edwards of Chatham County and State of North carolina being over sick and
weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God, therefore calling us to mind the mortality of my Body Knowing that it is
appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and testament that is to say, principally and first of all I give and
recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in decent Christian Maner at the
discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the general resurection (resurrection) shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God
that gave it and as touching such worly (worldly) estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give demise and depose in the
following maner (manner) and form - Item, I give to my well beloved son Robert Edward, five shillings, secondly to my well beloved Daughter
Elizabeth Lasiter five shillings, thirdly, to my well beloved son Hugh Edwards five shillings, fourthly, to my well beloved Daughter Hannah
Stuart five shillings, Fifthly to my well beloved Daughter Rebekah Edwards two cows and calfs one bead (bed) and furniture one breeding sow. Sixthly
I leave my land and all my other property in the hand of my well beloved wife Agness Edwards during life or widowhood and then sold and equally
divided between my well beloved sons John Edwards and Isom Edwards. I likewise constitute make and ordain Robert Edwards & Hugh Edwards
Executors of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby uterly disalow revoke and do annull all and every Testament will legacies and
Bequests and Executors by me in any way before named wills and bequeaths ratifying and confirming this my last Will and Testament In witness
whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the date above written.

my last Will and Testament in manner as following this is to say first I allowe my boddy to be disently buried and I commit my sole to my
redeemer in hopes of a blessed immortality secondly I lend to my wife Anna six hundred acres of Land with the plantation whareon I live with
my three negroes thar names caled Dick and Bet and Pat with the stock of Horses sheep Hogs and so forth the hole of my household and kitchen
furnuture and planters tools during the time that she is my widdow but if she Mary for the hole to be equally divided betwixt all my Children
except two that lives in Vrgina, and they Except that part that is wild to them Elizabeth and Polly, to Each I gave one fether bed and one
Horse worth Ten pounds, and one Cowe and Saddel and Calf if they take them for ther own use and one hundred acres of Land joining the other
Land one saddol also I desire that my Children that is with me be brought up well and in the peace of God with God Edducation thar names
as follows Amy and Nancy and James and one not bron (born?) I also ordane my loving wife during my widder also my trusty frend William

In the name of God Amen. I Ruth Evans being sick of body but of  perfect mind and memory considering that is is allotted for all men once to die
do first will my soul to God that gave it me.
Now as touching my worldly goods.
I will as follows.
Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter? Mary McPherson five dollars to be paid her in cash.
Item. I give unto my four sons namely, Owen? Evans, John Evans Tho's and Aaron Evans, each of them ten shillings to be paid them in cash.
If further give unto my son Aaron Evans the one half of all my stock of every kind then?
Item I give unto my five daughters namely Mary McPherson, Sarah Emerson, Abigail Pyle, Ruth Brooks, & Rebecca Evans all the residue of my Estate
of every kind whatsover to be Equally divided to them and their heirs forever... (Then follows five or six words that I cannot make out, they
are so dim) ..their heirs forever is meant to stand (or extend?) to the whole of my legatees. I further appoint my two sons John Evans and Aaron

In the name of God, Amen. I John Farrar of the County and State aforesaid being poorly in body but in my sound mind and memory thanks to
to God for the same and cawling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die do make this my Last
will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say.
First of all I lend unto my beloved wife during her life time or widowhood all the property that I am possessed with at this time. In
case my wife should marry my will is that she should have during her life the labour of Old Jim and Jude, his wife and likewise Phillis.
Item. My will is that, my wife should have my hole plantation and some woodlin land lying? at the upper end of my last years Tobacco ground
from thence straight line to the large forked popular near or lying close by Tapley Bynum's line. Thence down said line to Joseph Farrar's
Line.
Item. My will is that after my death that my son Joseph Farrar have all my land that I am possessed with at this time, Except that share before
given to my wife and after my wife's death the land I give to her I give to my son Joseph Farrar.
Item My will is that ..... my wife should marry or decease I give to my son Joseph Farrar my negro boy Dick. I also give son Joseph and equal
share to all my moveable property and household goods.
Item. My will is that after the marriage or decease of my wife that Jean? (part of the letters are covered) Moore have the following negroes
namely, Young Jim, Cain and Mill (or Will) Item. My will further is that Sally Roberson have after, after the marriage of my wife should it so happen.
I give Moll and Aaron and at the death of my Wife, Phillis.
Item My will is that my wife have my mulatto? Ruben, I also lend my Wife Two  Cows which ever she chooses. I also lend my wife a good Bed d
furniture. I also lend my wife one dish, six plates, & two basens that is Petwer(pewter) . I also lend her my desk. I give my wife six Earthen
plates, six tea cups and saucers, six tea spoons, one Tea Pot that is pewter a case of knives and forks two earthen boles one pot and dutch
oven, a small Table and six  cheers (chairs) a Coffee Pot, a butter Pot and Pickel Pot.
Item. My will is that after my wife's Death or Marriage that my property not already given be divided amongst my legatees, also all the property
I lend my wife except the negroes to be equally divided amongst my legatees at my wife's Death, Old Jim and his wife go to which of my
children they may chose. I also nominate and appoint Peter Farrar and Richard Lyon Executors to this my last Will and Testament and now O
Lord, I have finished any worldly business in Charity with all men and humbly wait thy will in testimony I have hereunto set my hand and seal
this Second day of December 1799.

possession and one cow and calf to him and his heirs forever. I also give to my Daughter Mary one Bed and wheel to her and her heirs forever.
I give unto my son Theophilus one Rifle gun one young mare and one Heifer yearling to him and his heirs forever.
I give unto my daughter Sarah one Heifer to her and her heirs forever.
I give unto my son Abraham one cow and calf to him and his heirs forever.
I give unto my son Isaac one shot gun to him and his heirs forever.
I desire that my wife discharging my just debts, should I owe any have all my crop stock of hogs and working tools for my her support and my
three youngest children after my decease-
I make and ordain Elijah Hunter and William Edwards executors of this my last will and testament.

all and every other former Testaments, Wills, legacies, bequeaths and executors by me in any wise before named and bequeathed, ratifying and
confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and

 In the Name of Amen, I Roger Griffith of the County of Chatham and State  of North Carolina being of sound mind memory and disposition but knowing
 the uncertainty of Life and the certainty of Death do make constitute  and ordain this my Last Will & Testament.
 First, to the Almighty and omnicient being I assign my Soul fervent  strong hope that his mercy will lock over my transgressions which I have
 committed in this life and will extend to promote my happiness and  everlasting rest in that which is to come-
 Secondly I will and bequeath to my son Billy Griffith and his Heirs  forever my Bible and Dictionary=
 Item, I desire that all my personal Estate consisting of Stock Household  & Kitchen furniture working utencils etc. be sold and twelve month
 credit and divided in the following manner: To witt, I will and bequeath  to Sarah GriffiN  (not Griffith) Twenty pounds to be paid out of the
 amount of the above sale by my executors and the overplus to be equally  divided between my three youngest children Billy Griffith Polly Griffith
 & Celia Griffith which I will & bequeath to them and their Heirs forever  and to be paid to them at there attaining lawfull age and in case either
 of them should die without lawfull Heir for their share to be equally  divided between the survivors share and share alike and I also direct
 and desire that my Negroes and all my land lying on the east side of the Mountains be sold at two years credit from the sale thereof and divided
 in the following manner as follows I will and bequeath to Sarah Griffin  and her Heirs forever Twenty Pounds and the ballance to be equally
 divided in the following manner between my five children (To Wit)
 John Griffith, Pleasant Griffith, Polley, Celia & Billy and in case any  of them should die without lawfull Heirs for their share to be equally
 divided between the survivors share and share alike and as to my land  lying on the West side of the Mountains, I will and bequeath to my three
 sons & their Heirs forever share and share alike and if either of them  should die without lawfull issue for their share to be equally divided
 between the survivors. I also request that my just debts & funeral  Expenses be paid out of the whole of my estate and then divided as above
 mentioned.
 I also request that my Executers herein after nam'd try to provid some good place of abode for my two dauters Polley & Celia for without some
 provision of this kind from their young tender ages might be left in an  helpless situation.
 I also constitute and appoint Zachariah Harman and James Howard  Executers of this my last Will & Testament, hereby revoking and
 annulling all former Wills or Testaments by me or for me made.

"share I gave unto my daughter Mary Marks ....now her share I give to my grandson Ewel Marks for the following purpose and to be applied to the following use that is that he may and shall from time to time think proper and at his discretion maintain and support his mother, Mary and should she died before she gets the said property in her possession then to be equally divided between her surviving children.
