Deeds for James McCann

My ancestor, James McCann, was in Chatham Co. before 1785, he bought a tract of land in 1785 and then sold same in 1786.

           This Indenture made this fourteenth day of November, in the year of Our Lord one Thousand Seven hundred and Eighty five between Richard Barber of Chatham County and State of North Carolina of the one Part and James McCann of the County and State aforesaid of the other part ( Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the Sum of Twelve pounds current money to the Said Richard Barber in hand paid by the Said James McCann, before the sealing and delivery of them presents ( The receipt and payment whereof is hereby Acknowledged) Hath granted Bargained Sold conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth grant Bargain Sell, alien , convey and confirm unto the said James McCann his heirs and assigns forever secure said Tract or parcel of Land situate lying and being in the Said County of Chatham; Beginning at a Pine in Jacob Veriman's line and running North one hundred and fifty one poles to a Black Oak then East one hundred and eighty poles to a pine in William Barbers line. Thence down the same South one hundred and forty poles to a post Oak at William Barbers Corner. Then along his other line East eighty poles to a post Oak. Thence South Eleven poles to a pine at Verdimans Corner. Thence along said line two hundred and sixty poles to the first station containing one hundred and seventy five acres be the Same more or less it being a Tract of Land granted to the said Richard Barber under the hand of Alexander Martin, Esquire governor and the great Seal of the State of North Carolina by Grant bearing date, the twenty Third Day of October one Thousand seven hundred and Eighty two and duly registered in the Registers office of Chatham County in Book C page 54_60 Reference being had there to will more fully Appear) with the appurtenances Situate lying and being on aforesaid with the their and every of their rights members and appurtenances whatsoever and the reversions and reversions remainder of all and singular the lands Vestments hereditaments and premises hereby granted or intended to be granted and of every part and parcel thereof belonging or appertaining also all the Estate right Interest property claims and  interest whatsoever of him the said Richard Barber his heirs Executors or administrators of in and to the said land and premises ) to have and to hold the said lands investments determents and premises hereby granted with their appurtenances unto the said James McCann his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behalf of him the Said James McCann his heirs and assigns forever. And the said Richard Barber his heirs Executors and Administrators shall and unto all shall warrant and forever defend the said premises to the said James McCann his heirs and assigns against all lawful Claims and demands whatsoever whereby the above mentioned premises might or may be effected or encumbered contested to the true intent and meaning of these presents. In witness whereof the said Richard Barber has hereunto set his hand and seal. The Day and year first above written.

          This Indenture made this Third day of May in the year of Our Lord one Thousand Seven hundred and eighty Six between James McCann of the County of Chatham and State of North Carolina, School Master of the one part and Mary Dowd of Moore County and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of forty pounds to the said James McCann in his hand by the said Mary Dowd at and before the Sealing and Delivery of  these presents the receipt and payment  whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained sold aliened confessed conveyed and confirm and by these presents doth bargain grant sell alien convey and confirm unto the said Mary Dowd her heirs and assigns forever a certain parcel of Land lying in the said County of Chatham containing by estimation one hundred and Seventy five Acres being a Tract of Land conveyed to the Said James McCann by Richard Barber of the Said County of Chatham by deed bearing date the __________________________.
           Beginning at a pine on John Verdiman's line and running North one hundred and fifty one poles to a Black Oak. Thence East one hundred and eighty pole to a pine on Wm. Barber's Line. Thence down the Same South one hundred and forty pole to a Post Oak at Wm. Barber's Corner, Thence along his line East eighty pole to Post Oak. Thence South Eleven pole to a pine at Verdiman's corner. Thence along said line two hundred and fifty poles to beginning. with appurtenances situate lying and being aforesaid with all and every of his rights members and appurtenances whatsoever and the said revisions remainder and reminders of all and singular the lands testate hereditaments and premises hereby grant or intend to be granted and of every part and parcel thereof and full use of services and profits to her or any part or parcel thereof doth belonging or appertaining and also all and every the ___________Claim Interest and command whatsoever of him the said James McCann of or unto the Said Lands Testaments Hereditaments and for whatever hereby granted or intended to be granted or any of them or part or parcel thereof. To have and to hold the said land  thereunto hereditaments and premises hereby granted with their appurtenances to the said Mary Dowd her heirs and assigns forever and the said James McCann for himself his heirs and administrators doth hereby forever warrant and agree that he the said James McCann his heirs, and assigns defend against all lawful claims and commands whatsoever the above mentioned premises might or may be affected or presumed unto other than the true intent and meaning of these presents in witness whereof the said James McCann has hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year find above written.
