Possibly married Agnes Tate. He "may" be the son of Andrew Mitchell and Mary McGowen.

John fought in the Revolutionary War. I believe he lived in the Chatham/Orange co., NC area. He died in NC. He was born and reared in Ireland, but the family oral history is that, these Mitchells left Scotland for Ireland during the Stuart Rebellion.

He married (3) Phoebe Jefferson Clark Abt. 1843, daughter of William Clark and Susannah Bell. She was born February 07, 1803 in Chatham Co., N.C., and died March 15, 1885.

However, in the 1860 census of Chatham, she is living in the household of her daughter Charlotte Smith, wife of Oliver Smith.
Phoebe is given as "Pheeby Michel age 55, f. domestic, her personal property value 1,000, can't read or write.
Charlotte's age is 35 f w housekeeper
Oliver is 47, m. w, farmer with 228 value of real prop. & 125 value of personal
Charlotte and Oliver have James or Joseph (abbrev. is Jos or Jas.) age 11, or maybe 16, Male, Naomy age 14, also given as male (ditto marks) has to be a mistake.
