SAMUEL THAMES is dead. He was a native of Grays Creek, Cumberland County, NC, but for the last few 
years his home was in Melrose, Fla., where a devoted sister now mourns the loss of a brother whose 
companionship served to embrace the pleasures of her new home, and whose early death leaves an aching 
void in her sad heart. He died on the 31st July, aged 24 years, after a short, but painful illness of 
two days. Although the period of his life was brief, it was sufficient for him to have won and retained 
the admiration and love of all who knew him. (more)
