It is with feelings unspeakable, I record this my (?) of mortality, on Thursday 11 o'clock P.M. the 3rd June 1817 our dear sweet child Sarah Emily Anderson departed this world of trouble, for one of rest. aged 8 years, 6 mons & 10 days old, she was taken ill on Monday 19th May was attended by Drs. B. Robinson & Polk her disorder was water in the head she was buried in our grave yard the following evening at 6 o'clock between the remains of our much loved child Caroline Anderson & our friend Col. DeKeyser, God's will be done

1818 Monday July 20th 4 o'clock PM at this awful hour it pleased God in the conformation of his Providence to afflict this family with a heavy hand in taking to himself the soul of my dearly beloved wife Ann Anderson which far exceeds all other (?) & deaths for she was the hope & comfort of the family, a truly pious woman, the affectionate mother, the best of wives, the kind friend & (?) while she was able to articulate she called her family around her to give each of them her blessing to William, David, & Evan, & her dear nephew Wm. J. McLean she gave an admonition, to her dear Marg't & her husband she could say nothing but her eyes spoke more than words, This was truly a holy pious scene. The complaint of my beloved was a consumption, which was of 6 or 8 months duration, two weeks before this she returned from her worthy friend Mr. Hugh McLean's where she had been kindly treated for 6 weeks to their hospitality. To our excellent good friend Mrs. DeKeyser, I can not express how much I am under obligation, for her constant care and attention to my love, from the first to the last moment, I owe so much, not only on this occasion, but on every one where my family has been affected. The God of us all will reward her for her kindness. For the last three weeks my love was wholly confined to her bed & the last two days suffered much bodily pain, which she bore with great fortitude & resignation, Continually giving herself to God through her Lord Jesus Christ the ledger of the quick and the dead who will, I hope, pronounce joyful sentence. "Well done thou good faithful servant enter into My Joy". Oh God give us grace & fortitude to imitate her good example in all things. Perhaps no man & wife was lived in such fidelity than we have done, for 21 years we have been together and though it has pleased God to frown on us for some years past yet we have had signs of his Appreciation. The remains of my beloved was (?) interred in my Kirk enclosure on Tuesday evening 21st July in the west corner there of. The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away, Blessed be the Name of the Lord.

1818 Tuesday 22nd of September 6 o'clock AM It pleased God to take to Himself the soul of my son, my dear son Evan Anderson aged 7 years & 10 months, after a painful illness, he was interred the same evening at the feet of his dear mother. It is good for us to be afflicted but in the two short months to be separated from a dear wife and a promising boy is almost more than I can bear.

1819 Thursday 9th Sept. 8 o'clock AM died my much and well beloved son David aged 11 years 2 months 6 days. I am almost overwhelmed with grief, at so sudden lost for after 5 days very severe indisposition, it would seem as if the finger of God was pointed at me, but his will be done. This was a truly promising boy of a mild disposition & great capacity very few anywhere and none here had made greater promise in education than he. My sweet amiable boy is gone from this world of sorrow to sleep in the arms of his Savior.

Died at his plantation in Moore County Hugh McLean, My worthy friend & brother in law aged about 48 years he left this world of trouble on the night of the 5th April 1820

1823 Friday March 14th at 5 PM It hath pleased the Almighty again to afflict me, in taking to himself the soul of my dear dear & most affectionate daughter Mrs. Margaret Ann Wright aged 22 years 6 months & 9 days. The Lord gave, & the Lord hath taken away, Blessed be the name of the Lord. Altho this is a dire disposition of Gods Providence, yet we hope she rests in Jesus, she was a truly pious woman, had her senses & reason to the last moments and died in the arms of an affectionate husband, praising the Redeemer; her remains were interred by an oak tree on the (?) of the hill in the grave yard about 60 feet back of my yard

1823 Saturday 22nd March, Margaret Winslow Wright, the infant child and only one of John Winslow Wright and Margaret Ann Wright, went to Mrs. Winslow's, with a maid Dolly. 2nd evening at Mrs. Winslow's where was present John Winslow Wright, Mrs. E. King and David Anderson who agreed to call the child Marg't. Winslow Wright

1825 June 12th to Margaret W. Wright had the Measles of a mild kind she was not confined, very prevalent in Town and Country about this time

1825 July 9th David Anderson weighed 171 lbs. he had not weighed in 25 years his usual weight was 145

On Tuesday the 9th of April 1844 about 1 o'clock PM it pleased God in his Providence to take to himself the soul of my beloved and honorable father David Anderson. Author of these records. Aged 77 years & 3 months He was confined to the house about 3 weeks. His mind was clear to the last and his constant prayer was that God in his good time would free his soul from it's clay tenement and let it rest in peace with Jesus. Where from the Christian life he spent and the holy death He died, there can be no doubt it is now happy with the Blessed Redeemer. He retained his senses to the last and died without a groan. He was a tender father, a kind friend and when his circumstances permitted was generous in the extreme. God grant I may live as he lived & die as he died.

DIED On Monday last, Mrs. Ann Anderson, the amiable consort of David Anderson, Esq. Of this town. In the death of this truly valuable woman, society has sustained a real loss. Mrs. Anderson possessed in a very high degree, every quality which could render her interesting, as a Wife, Mother, and Friend. But the Ruthless hand of Death hath torn her From us. In this however, we recognize The Finger of God. "The Lord gave, & The Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord" The loss to Husband, Children & Friends, has been great: but we are conforted from the consideration that what was our loss has been her incalculable gain. She had long perceived the approach of "the last Enemy," and had long, but particularly, in her dying exercises, given the most satisfactory evidence that she was prepared to meet him. On Tuesday last, her remains, accompanied by a very large assemblage of sympathizing friends, were committed to the silent grave. "Thanks be to God, who giveth us victory, through our Lord Jesus Christ"

DIED In this town, yesterday morning, David Anderson, Esq., in the 78th year of his age. Mr. A was one of the oldest and most respectable inhabitants of this town: a member of the Presbyterian Church for a period beyond the recollection of most of its citizens, a man without reproach, a nobleman of nature's own stamp; to become a good Christian, an honest man, and a perfect gentleman, it will only be necessary to follow his example.

DIED In this town, on 9th inst., our venerable and much esteemed citizen David Anderson, Esq. In the 77th year of his age. He was born in Scotland, in the town of Sterling, where he removed at an early age to this country and place. He was for many years, among the most enterprising business men of this place, engaged in extensive mercantile transactions; and when, by unforeseen events, a reverse in his circumstances took place, and so maintained the integrity of his character, as to escape the censure so commonly cast upon those, who, like him, become involved in pecuniary embarrassment. Few men have lived so universally respected and esteemed in the community where they resided. Venerable in years, grave in his deportment, cheerful in society, and consistent as well as uniform in his walk as a Christian, he goes down to his grave as a "shock of corn fully ripe" leaving behind him an example that will not soon be forgotten; and while his venerable form is no more seen among us, none will doubt that a good man has gone to his rest. From the first organization of the Presbyterian Church in this place, Mr. Anderson has been a ruling elder, which office he has sustained with dignity, at all times, by his prudent counsel and efficient action in maintaining a wholesome discipline, proving his attachment to the church, and his desire to promote its welfare. Being a firm believer in the doctrines of the Gospel as contained in the formularies of the Presbyterian Church, he maintained a strict attendance upon the worship of God in his place, and while he regarded with becoming charity all other denominations, he never swerved from his own, never regarded with indifference its interests or concern.
