Several days ago we announced the death of this estimable lady, which occurred in Lenoir. We take the following
from the Asheville Citizen.
Mrs. Jarvis Buxton died at Lenoir, N.C., early yesterday morning, after an illness of several weeks. All of her
immediate family were with her when death came.
Mrs. Buxton was a daughter of Judge John A. Cameron of the United States Circuit Court of Florida, and a sister
of Col. John D. Cameron of this city. She was born in Fayetteville, N.C., and was nearly seventy four years of
age. She was married in 1847 to Rev. Jarvis Buxton. Mr. and Mrs. Buxton came to Asheville in 1849 and Mr. Buxton
became rector of Trinity Church. It was only a few years ago that Dr. Buxton resigned as rector of Trinity church
and removed with his family to Lenoir.
Mrs. Buxton was well known in Asheville and vicinity. She commanded the respect of every one, and was sincerely
loved by a very large circle of friends, both within the Episcopal Church and outside of it.
Dr. Buxton and seven children survive Mrs. Buxton. The children are Jarvis Buxton, Esq., of Wilkesboro, Hon.
John Cameron Buxton, of Winston, Mrs. Joseph McRae, of Wilmington, Mrs. Charles Kain, of Philadelphia, and
Misses Fannie, Lillie and Mary Buxton.
