DANIEL McNEILL
Shared research of Elizabeth Hanebury and Buddy Blue

My research shows that "my" Daniel McNeill was born in 1799 at Cross Creek, and that He married Julia Farrish (in the marriage bonds it is Farish - from Chatham Co, NC. daughter of Thomas and Frances Banks Farish). At some time they moved to Miss. (Julia entered the Presbyterian Church there in 1855 - on the Marshall Co website "members of Holly Springs Church") Their daughter Emily McNeill Lacy (she married Matthew Michie Lacy) was my grandmother's grandmother (I have a 1910 picture of EML and her daughters, at least some of them, in Corsicanna, Tx)

Buddy Blue seems to have given me Daniel's father, another Daniel and Sarah McKay McNeill, but finding where they went, or if there was a first wife, (as Buddy believes) we don't know. We do know that many of this family of McNeills went to Ark. and Miss., but for my Daniel, we really don't know.

I know that this Daniel McNeill spent most of his life outside of Cumberland Co, NC, but he was born there and since there are so many Daniels perhaps this will help someone else. The Farish part of this line is very well documented in census, court records, books etc.     Elizabeth.

(Up-date April 04, 2002) I have FINALLY found, thanks to a kind soul the census entry for Daniel Mc Neil and I thought I'd send it on to you to add to the decendants page Daniel McNeil Cross Creek. This is the first Proof that He and Julia Farish had children beside my gggm Emily Mc Neil Lacy. I past it below

I haven't been able to find him in the 1850 in either NC or MISS. I would love to hear if anyone has any of these children in their line.

Missing from this group is the elder daughter, Emily McNeil who married Matthew Michie Lacy in Miss. 06/08/1856

The following is from the research of Buddy Blue:
Daniel McNeill was born in Scotland (Gigha) and came to NC in 1769. According to family tradition, Daniel's father was Named Archibald, and he was killed at Culloden. He was rumored to have been an illegitimate son of Neill (the Colonizer') McNeill's father. When he came to America he settled in the Longstreet area (now on the Fort Bragg Military Reservation) Sarah McKay was born in NC after her parents Archibald McKay and Ann Gilchrist McKay immigrated from Kentyre Scotland.

Archibald McKay was one of the first three elders in Longstreet Presbyterian Church. A Leading Loyalist during the Revolution, three of his sons were officers in the Royal North Carolina Regiment.

Daniel and Sarah lived first on the south side of Lower Little River, just west of where James Creek enters the Lower Little River. They moved to the South side of Deep River in Moore County, a few miles west of High Falls, before the end of the 18th Cent. They attended Union Presbyterian Church in Moore County and are buried there.

Now, these are notes I have no way of verifying, they are from a gedcom (http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi): The area where the Daniel McNeill farm is located then became a part of Moore County. As recently as 1995, the origina lDaniel McNeil! farm in Moore County is still owned by his descendent, Edgar Leslie McNeill. For more details concerning Daniel's life before immigrating toAmerica see the Notes in this genealogy report for his father Archibald McNeil!.
