DEATH OF DR. McDUFFIE
Fayetteville Loses One of Her Leading Citizens
The Fayetteville Observer of October 31st says:
	Dr. W.C. McDuffie who has long been lingering on the threshold of death, passed away at his residence 
on Russell street at 12:45 o'clock today.
	Dr. McDuffie was one of the most distinguished physicians in the state. He was president of the State 
Medical Association in 1885, and since the organization of General Parker's brigade of United Confederate 
Veterans has been surgeon on General Parker's staff.
	Dr. McDuffie's place in the community will not be filled. He represented an era that is past. But it 
will be long before the recollection of is splendid qualities as a man and a citizen, of his genial presence, 
of his kindly speech and tender heart, passes from among us.
	Dr. McDuffie was born in Cumberland county on the 10th day of February, 1829, and was therefore in the 
71st year of his ge at the time of his death. He was the youngest of five children born to his parents, 
Archibald and Rebecca G. McDuffie. His brother, Mr. James R. McDuffie of Johnston, Liberty County, GA, is 
the only surviving member of his family, and was with him at the time of and for several days previous to his 
death. Of his own family there survives him his two daughters and one son. Mr. E.B. McDuffie of Philadelphia. 
Mrs. Nash Bunting of Wilmington, and Mrs. Mm. Glover, of this city the latter two having been with the doctor 
during the entire period of his illness and the former visiing him from time to time at short intervals. His e
stimable wife passed to her rest three years ago, and since that time two of his sons, W.C., Jr., and Dr. Archie 
McDuffie and two of his sisters and one brother have died.
