There is more data about Jenny Bahn McNeill in the anecdotal section.
Generally, she was an astute business woman, befriended many Argyle emigres,
land speculator, drove cattle to market to the north, met and knew luminaries
such as Flora MacDonald and was a supporter of theLoyalist efforts (however
some suspect she may have sold cattle and horses to either side if they had the coin to pay for the items).

Notes for JOHN MCNEILL:
John earned his nickname as a result of a raid that he and some of his loyalist friends
perpetrated upon a family in Cumberland County, NC during the last stages of the Revolutionary War.
It seems they stole some dresses or at least damaged them among other things and in order to escape
the penalties associated with the raid, John enveigled the young ladies to drop the charges. As a
result of this strategem to prevent a trial, he was labeled as "cunning" or the "lawyer" because of
these wiles and strategems within the confines of justice.

Notes for MALCOLM MCNEILL:
There are several Malcolms in our family tree but this one was a participant in the American Revolution. He served along with others in his family and social circles in the North Carolina Highland Regiment which affiliated itself with the British home forces. He was captured at Moore's Creek in 1776 but was later released upon signing a loyalty oath to the crown. He of couse violated that oath and again served with the British Army but was captured in 1781 and released on his own recognizance. There is nothing unusual in his behavior for many of the colonists did pretty much the same thing. Throughout the rebellion there was never any certainty about the outcome so many men chose one side or the other as it suited their advantage. Malcolm unfortunately chose the losing side.
In marrying Janet McAllister, the two encountered the wrath of her father by eloping and marrying without his blessing. He stated in one of his letters published in the AC+, V12#1, that he never forgave them.
The source of his birth and death data list Harnett County which is often called Harnette County.
