Tilmon Woodhouse Family Bible
In 1978 this Bible was owned by Mattie Iona Outlaw Saunders (1912-1989) of Grandy, NC. Mattie Iona was the d/o John Homer Outlaw & Martha Caroline Evans. Martha Caroline (Evans) Outlaw was born Mar. 20, 1876 to Jesse Evans & Polly M.F. Woodhouse, d/o Tilmon Woodhouse & Martha Caroline Williams . There is a tag in the Bible that reads “Given to me by Mrs. Louie Barco” and is signed "Iona Outlaw Saunders". As of November 2010, no one knows who the present owner might be. Tillman/Tilmon Woodhouse is found in the 1850 and 1860 census as well as subsequent census records.

Martha C. Williams Mrs. A.P. Barco is Louie Ida (Evans) Barco, daughter of Jesse & Polly Evans, and sister of Martha Caroline (Evans) Outlaw. Mr. Jessie Evans gave the property that the Poplar Branch Baptist Church is built on and then sold property around it for the various family cemeteries. Louie was born Dec. 30, 1891 & died Aug. 25, 1979 and is buried in the Evans Cemetery in Poplar Branch, NC. Louie married Alphonso P. Barco. Alphonso was born Mar. 23, 1870 & died Oct. 21, 1953 and is buried in the Ballance Cemetery in Waterlily, NC. [see his death certificate] |

UPDATE from
Judy Merrell Brickhouse:
"This piece of paper was found in my grandmother's papers.
It
is the birth date & death date of her mother Sarah Elizabeth "Bettie"
Woodhouse, d/o Tillman & Martha Woodhouse. We had the birth date from
Tillman's bible but NO ONE knew her death date as her tombstone and others
were taken by the Sound or lost to farming implements. On the back of this
paper a date is written February 9, 1896 so we assume that this paper was
written by her daughter, Paulina Elizabeth Woodhouse Merrell, when she was
14 years old, her Mother passed a month after my grandmother turned 5 so
she really didn't remember her mother. The paper is in possession of
Paulina's grandson, Edward Merrell, who lives in Texas. It reads:
