At a Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions begun and held for
the County of Currituck at the Courthouse in said County on the Last Monday
of August it Being the 25th Day of August 1800 and Continued by
Adjournments till the 30th Day of August 1800.

Ordered that the Exx. of the Estate of Peter Padrick Decd. Sell the Perishable part of said Decd. Estate and Make Return to Next Court.
Grand Jury Empanelled to wit Brickhouse Bell, John Weskett, Joseph Gregory, John Lamb, John Sears, Saml. Whitehost, Samuel Dauge, Josiah Etheridge, Benjamin Tatum, Samuel Oneel, James Poyner, George Howard Mitchel Simmons. William Brumsey Constable Sworn to attend the Grand Jury.
The Court then Adjourned till Tomorrow 10 Oclock.

Ordered that John Melson be appointed Constable to the Powels Point District …qualified…gave bond with Lemuel Gregory & Jonathan Lindsey…250 pounds.
Ordered that Morris Baum have the right of Administration on the Estate of Dolly Neel Decd….Administrator qualified and gave bond with Jeremiah Foster and Thomas Poyner…sum of 20 pounds and Returned an Inventory.
Ordered that the Admr. of the Estate of Dolly Neel Decd. sell the Perishable part of said Decd. Estate and Make Return to Next Court.
Ordered that Nathan Hall have the Right of Administration on the Estate of Malachi Vallentine Decd. …Administrator Qualified and gave bond with John Melson and William Chaplain (?) securities in the sum of 200 pounds.
Ordered that Mary Adkins be allowed the sum of Sixteen Pounds for the first year to commence from the time of the birth of a bastard begotten on her body by William Oneel Junr. to be paid by the said William Oneel Junr.
Ordered that Daniel Shannon Late Constable in Powels Point District return the papers relative to [faded words] John Melson the Present Constable.

Ordered that William Lunn be appointed Overseer of the Road in the room…of Samuel Barnard late overseer.
Ordered that John Jamison be appointed overseer of the Road in Morses Point in the room…of Evan Jones Esq. late overseer.
Ordered that Malachi Caps be appointed Overseer of the Publick Road on Knots Island in the room … of Willis Gwin late Overseer.
On the Presentment (?) of the Grand Jury ordered that Joseph Ballentine Constable bring to this Court now sitting Thomas Etheridge orphan of Francis Etheridge in order that he may be bound out agreeable to Law.
Ordered that John Waterfield have leave to renew his Ordinary bond. At the same time he accordingly gave bond with Malachi Jones & Samuel Hall securities in the sum of 100 pounds.
Ordered that William Gray be appointed overseer of the Publick Road in the Room…of Jonathan Lindsey Esq. late overseer.
Ordered that _______ (?) Edey be appointed Overseer of the Head of the Bay Road in the room…of Zachariah Taylor late overseer.
Ordered that John Clark be continued Constable in Cape Hatterass …at the same time he the said John Clark gave bond with Thomas Farrow and Ezekial Hooper securities in the sum of 250 pounds.

Ordered that Sarah Fentress (?) be allowed the sum of fifteen pounds for keeping Milbery Fentress (?) a bastard child begotten on her body by Isaac Tillett commencing from May Term 1799 to August Term 1800 and that the said Isaac Tillett pay the same.
Ordered that John Sleight pay into the _______ (?) of Publick Buildings the sum of fifteen pounds which is excepted by the Court in Lieu of a Chimney which said Sleight was to put to the stone house on the Publick grounds and Mr. Maund (?) his Acct. agrees to pay the same.
This being the Term for Publick Officers to renew their Office Bonds Willis Etheridge Esquire Publick Register came in Court and gave bond with Andrew Duke and Josiah Nicholson securities in the sum of two thousand pounds…

Jesse Miller Orphan of Evan Miller Decd. said Orphan being upwards of fourteen years of age came into Court and chose Peter Culpepper his Guardian…said Guardian gave bond with Thomas Alison and Jesse Etheridge securities in the sum of two hundred pounds.
Ordered that Willis Walker be exempt from the payment of a pole tax for his person for the year 1799 he being upwards of sixty years old.
Ordered that Daniel Dunton, Thomas Williams Esq. and George Howard be appointed Patrolers in the Cowing Jock District…
The Emancipation of Negro Peter Late the property of Samuel Jasper of Knots Island was exhibited in Open Court and proceed to be lawfully executed by the oath of Spence Hall a subscribing witness thereto…which Amancipation was Ordered by the Court to be entered at full length in the minutes of these proceedings this Term which is in the following Words. aforesaid having duly considered the principals of Slavery do Fully &
Entirely and Absolutely for the Respect (?) I Give (?) Old Peter Carpenter
Emancipate and Set him free to pass (?) and repass (?) and do and act as a free
man at all times and Places free from any Incumberance of or by my assigns
except that at any time or times and at all times when ever me or my heirs
shall want any kind of houses built or Plantation work as to wooden repairs of
any kind he shall at all times faithfully perform it in preference of any one
all the days of his Life and give Bond and Security to use (?) keep himself off
the Parish free from my Estate.

Henry Evans vs. Isaiah Parr} appl. wrrt. Jury the same as No. 1 Empanelled and Sworn say the Defendant did Assume and assess for the Plaintiff 8/9 & cost.
Ordered that Thomas C. Ferebee Guardian to Nancy Humphries Orphan of John Humphries Decd. sell such part of the Steers (?) belonging to said Orphan as he may think advantageous to said Orphan and Make Return to Next Court.
Ordered that Ferebee Standley Orphan of F_____(?) Standley Decd. be bound an apprentice to Joel Ayles to learn the art or mistery of a Carpenter (?) til he arrives to the age of twenty one years he being now about twelve years of age.

Ordered that Thomas Poyner Esq., Thomas Heath, Daniel Lindsey & Thomas Sanderson…audit and settle the accounts of Thomas Whitehall administrator of the Estate of Robert Whitehall Decd. and Make Return to Next Court.
Ordered that an Order passed last Term for ________ing or taking from Jonathan Lindsey Esquire Two Mulatto Children by the name of Isaiah & Dorcas Hunt which was bound apprentices to said Lindsey be & the same is hereby recinded and made void and that the said Isaiah and Dorcas Hunt ________ agreeable to their Indentures and that their said Master comply with the same on his part.

Saturday the 30th Day of August 1800
Ordered that Benjamin Taylor Sr. be appointed Entry Taker for the County of Currituck at the same time Benjamin Taylor Senr. appeared in Open Court and give bond with Thomas Mercer & Jeremiah Mercer securities in the sum of two thousand pounds which was excepted by the Court and at the same time the said Entry Taker qualified agreeable to Law.

Ordered that Davis Fancher have leave to renew his bond as Constable the said Davis Fancher came into Court and give Bond with Holowell Etheridge and Samuel Lee Secuities in the sum of Two Hundred and fifity pounds.
Ordered that all Orders Passed at Last Term that have not been Returned be Continued for Return to Next Term.
Ordered that Grace Hall be allowed the sum of forty Shillings for Each three months to Commence from the time said Grace Hall Left George Brooks the father of her child and to End at the Expiration of One year from the time of Commencement the same is to be paid by the said George Brooks for the Keeping her Bastard Child Begotten on her Body By the said George Brooks.
Ordered that Abner Guilford Orphan of Mary Guilford Decd. a Malatto Child about the age of two years be bound an apprentice to Dennis Dauge to learn the farmers Business till he arrives to the age of twenty one years.
Ordered that Willoughby Dauge Junr. be appointed Overseer of the Publick Road in the Room & Stead of Dennis Dauge late Overseer.

the Gap S westerly along the Road…Paralell with the Out Side Roes of apple
trees…to the woods the said Dolly Smith has the Eastward End of Both
