[My note: of interest is this entry in the book Place Names of the Outer Banks by Roger L. Payne, 1985. "MARY TILLETT PLACE. An area in Dare County, Atlantic Township...located but not named on the Kitty Hawk map. The area is situated on the east shore of Currituck Sound, 2 mi. (3.2 km) southwest of Southern Shores and 2.5 mi. (4 km) northwest of Kitty Hawk. Historical Note: The feature is of historical significance primarily and lingers today basically as a reference point. The origin of the name seems obvious, but is somewhat obscure today." I wonder if this was the same Mary Tillett who ran an Ordinary? MBH].

Currituck County} We the Subscribers being indifferently Chosen By Samuel Dauge & James Dauge heirs of Tully Dauge decd. They the said Samuel and James Dauge being first duly Sworn on the holy evenjelist of almighty God, to Stand to and abide by the Award arbitriment of Us William Simmons and Brickhouse Bell Arbitrators as above Chosen to lay of and set appart unto the said Samuel and James Dauge all the lands and Plantations which their father Tully Dauge decd. left them to be divided between them We the Arbitrators above mentioned in Consequence of our being Indifferently Chosen and the trust reposed in us by the heirs aforesaid do proceed to lay off and set apart unto each heir his proportion of said lands and plantations in the following manner to wit
We lay off and Set appart unto Samuel Dauge the Land and Plantation whereon Tully Dauge formerly lived Bounded as follows beginning at a Corner Gum at the fork Road In Willoughby Dauges line thence Running with the pattent line to William Simmons line thence with his line to Samuel Simmons line thence with his line to Willoughby Dauges line thence with his line to the first Station Containing...[amount not stated here]...

...Then we proceed to lay off and set apart unto James Dauge one tract of land and Plantation Called Long Ridge in the North River Swamp adjoining the land of the heirs of Benjamin Chittim decd. by deed from General Peter Dauge said to Contain one hundred and fifty four acres be the same more or less and all the lands thereunto belonging. Also one tract of land called the White Oake Glade bought of Peter Parr said to Contain one hundred Acres more or less. Also all the land that belonged to the said Tully Dauge to eastward of the Glade land said to Contain Seventy Acres more or less Also one tract of Land Called Juniper Ridge binding on Willoughby Dauge Containing eighty Acres more or less.

And we whose Names are hereunto Subscribed do further Arbitrate that Samuel Dauge Pay unto James Dauge Seventy two Pounds ten Shillings that sum appearing to Us to be the difference between the lands divided between the Said heirs of Tully Dauge decd.

Currituck County} The petition of Selah Sanderson Widow of John Sanderson Junr. late decd. to the worshipful Court now sitting whereas the afsd. departed this life on the 12th or 13th January last past and being in possession of a tract of land Situate in the County aforesaid and bounded as follows Begining at the Road side that leads from Poplar branch to Parkers Creek Near or at a Small branch in George Caffees line thence westerdly with said line to the land that was formerly Ambrose Mitchells thence Southerly with said line to Joseph Odowdys thence Easterly with the said line to the main Road thence northerly with the main Road to the first Station and on the above mentioned tract of land is three small plantations and four houses and the same is divised to Sons Richard & Henry Sanderson by his last will and your petitioner humbly prays that you will order the Sheriff to summons a Jury and the County surveyor and allot and set off to her her Right of dower agreeable to law and make Return to Next Court and she will be in duty bound ever pray &c. &c. We the subscribers being summoned by the Sheriff having met on the Premises and after being qualifyed proceed to lay off & set appart Unto Selah Sanderson widdow of John Sanderson decd. her Right of dower in her decd. husbands real estate in the following Manner That is to Say One thirid part of the land whereon the decd. lived Beginning at a peach tree Standing to the westward of the house thence Running So. about 14 degrees E 64 links thence So. 36 degrees E 5 Chain to near the Main Road thence N 14 degrees W 8 Chain & 61 links to a Stake near the gap thence a straight course to the aforesaid mentioned peach tree Containing about Six Acres of land including the dwelling house Also Unto said Selah Sanderson one thirid part of the other two Clearings joining on the main Road one the land formerly Ambrous Mitchall decd. in the following manner begining on the west side of the main Road at a Stake thence Running N46 W about nine Chain thence So 56 W 4 Chain & 2 links thence So. 22 E About eleven Chain to a Stake thence to the beginning Containing about five acres of Land. NB also the said Selah Sanderson Widdow to have the one half of the Yopon the south part & the Orphan the other half Given under our hands and Seals this 7th day of May 1801.

Whereas Selah Sanderson widdow of John Sanderson decd. by Petition Exhibited in the Court of pleas & quarter Sessions held for the County of Currituck February term 1801 disenting from the last will and testament of her deceased husband and praying that dowery may be assigned her in her said husbands personal estate agreeable to an Act of Assembly in such Case made and Provided
You are therefore Commanded to summons a Jury of good and lawful men free holders of your County Unconnected with the parties by affinity or Consanguinity to meet at the late dwelling house of the said John Sanderson decd. and allot off and set appart to the said widdow her part which she is entitled to by law of the personal estate of the said John Sanderson decd. due Regard be had to the provisions made her in the last will and testament of the said deceased and the law in such Cases Made and provided herein fail not and have you this writ and how you have executed the same before the Justices of our Next Court of pleas and quarter sessions to be held for the County of Currituck at the Courthouse in said County on the Last Monday of may Next witness Spence Hall Clerk of the said Court at office at Currituck the XXVIIIth day of February in the XXVth year of the Independance of the said State Anno domini 1801.
