Lemuel Baker - 1876
not dated - The petition of C.H. BALFOUR, administrator of Lemuel BAKER showeth that on the 10th day of July 1876 he qualified as administrator of said BAKER and your petitioner further showeth that from the best information which he can obtain that the chattel property belonging to the said estate has been exhausted & the debts due from the estate amount to about [nothing written] dollars. Your petitioner further showeth that his intestate at the time of his death was seized and possessed of a tract of land containing 18 acres more or less. Your petitioner further showeth that a sale of said land is necessary to enable him to pay the debts due from the said deceased to that en he prays that a summons may be issued to the heirs at law with a copy of this petition for them to show if any they have why such decree should not be made. Your petitioner further prays that an order of sale be made of said land upon such terms as you may deem best and that the funds arising from said sale may constitute assets in his hand. /s/ W.R. NOTE: Currituck Co. Marriages shows Lemuel Baker marrying Nancy Gray on July 3, 1859. In 1860 Lemuel was age 40 and Nancy age 21 with several older Baker children in the home.
