28 Jan 1857 - "Six months after date we or either of us do promise to pay to James M. FEREBEE, special administrator of William T. COTTER, deceased, or order the sum of $204.08, it being for value received. As witness our hands and seals this January 28, 1857." /s/ Hamilton COTTER, Elizabeth COWELL. Witness: Joseph COWELL
29 Mar 1867 - To the Sheriff of Currituck County--You are hereby commanded to summon Hamilton COTTER and Wm. H. COWELL, administrator of Elizabeth COWELL, deceased, and have them before the Judge of Superior Court to answer unto James M. FEREBEE, administrator of W.T. COTTER, to use? of Mary R. SHAW, executrix of H.M. SHAW, in a plea of debt for $204.08 which they owe and detain. They ask for $100.00 in damages. /s/ V.L. PITTS, Clerk
NOTE: Cemetery records indicate that Elizabeth Cowell, wife of James Cowell, died on Dec. 8, 1860 at the age of 80.
