Currituck County} To the Superior Court of said County –
The undersigned Commissioners appointed by the Court to make partition of the lands which were of Mary ETHERIDGE, situated in said county and known as “Cowell deading” between and among George ETHERIDGE, Chloe ETHERIDGE and Wm. H. UPTON and wife Mary D. UPTON, heirs at law of said May ETHERIDGE and tenants in common of said lands – met on the premises on the 10th day of January 1878 and after being duly sworn, proceeded to divide and set apart to said claimants ………valued at $1000.
Witnessed our hands and seals the day Jany 1st 1885.

This cause coming on to be heard upon the report of the commissioners who were appointed to divide all the Cowell deading between the three children of Mary ETHERIDGE decd. and upon the petition of W. B. SHAW & wife W. H. UPTON & wife & George ETHERIDGE & wife who are now the only parties in said trust ……
It is considered by the court and so decreed, that the report of this commissioners dividing said land is hereby in all respects confirmed. And it is further decreed that all decrees in this case also this report of the commissioners and filed ….. Done in office Jany 19th 1885

Various other documents all pertaining to the division of the land. One such document says the land is bounded by Thomas SEARS, Mitchell FEREBEE, the BURFOOT land, the WHITEHURST land and the lands of Dempsey WILLIAMS. It also mentions that Chloe S. ETHERIDGE has intermarried with Geo. W. MORGAN? and with her said husband on the 8th day of April 1882 sold lot No. 2 as set apart to her by said commissioners to Geo. E. FERRILL (Deed Book 36, page 193) and since said time George ETHERIDGE has reached his majority and marries and with his wife has sold to said FERRILL all that part of lot no. 1.
