Sharon Fay Whitehead MICHAEL, age 66, of Moyock, NC left this world on Sunday, January 1, 2023 to be with the Lord. She also is reunited with her beautiful daughter, Amanda Lee WHITEHEAD; her parents, Severn and Dorothy WHITEHEAD; and her siblings, Tony WHITEHEAD and Cynthia OVERTON. Sharon was born in Norfolk, VA in January of 1956. She resided in Camden and Currituck County, NC for the best years of her life while gracefully giving all of herself to take care of those in need. Sharon is survived by her husband, James; her two brothers, Barry and Terry WHITEHEAD; two sons, Michael HARRIS, JR. and Daniel HARRIS (and their father Michael); her grandchildren, Severn and Jacob WHITEHEAD; and her gift from God, her only granddaughter, Rylin Lee HARRIS. Joey A. MICHAELANGELO, 25, of 1150 Tull’s Creed Road, Moyock, NC died Sunday, May 24, 2009. Mr. MICHAELANGELO , born in Norfolk, VA, was the son of Tony Anthony MICHAELANGELO, SR., and Brenda Sawyer MICHAELANGELO of the residence. He was a tree trimmer for Kovach’s Tree Service and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Besides his parents he is survived by his fiancé, Amber GIVENS of Chesapeake, VA; a daughter, Kaylie MICHAELANGELO of Chesapeake, VA; a sister, Katherine MICHAELANGELO of Moyock, NC; three brothers, Kevin Wayne CAMPBELL of Hertford, NC, Tony Anthony MICHAELANGELO, JR., and Johnathan MICHAELANGELO both of Virginia Beach, VA; paternal grandmother, Kathleen MICHAELANGELO of Moyock, NC; two aunts, Betty HOCUTT and Deloris MICHAELANGELO both of Moyock, NC; an uncle, Frank MICHAELANGELO of Jacksonville, FL; a nephew, Kevin Wayne CAMPBELL, II; and a special friend Tracey SWINDLE. Alfred Lewis MIDGETT, 78, of the 800 block of Oakdale Drive, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at Winslow Memorial Home. He was born June 24, 1919, in Kitty Hawk, N.C., the son of the late Ezekiel Decatur and Betty Elizabeth Toler MIDGETT and was the husband of Mildred C. Sawyer MIDGETT of the residence. He was predeceased by his first wife of 47 years, Hazel Mansfield MIDGETT. He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Mr. MIDGETT retired from the Federal Government Printing Service and later from the N.C. Ferry Service. He was a member of Moyock United Methodist Church. Besides his wife, Mr. MIDGETT is survived by two daughters, Laura E. STEIN of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Gladys M. JONES of South Mills, N.C.; a son, Donald L. MIDGETT of Baton Rouge, La.; four sisters, Margaret MEEKINS of Colington, N.C., Dorothy BURGE of Kitty Hawk, N.C., Lora OUTZ of Charlotte, N.C., and Flora SMITHSON of Elizabeth City, N.C.; two brothers, Jarvis W. MIDGETT of Charlotte, N.C., and Decatur Buck MIDGETT of Maurepas, La.; four grandchildren, Carol JONES of South Mills, N.C., Curtis and Betty Jo JONES of St. Augustine, Fla., and Alma DOWNS of Orland, Maine; four great-grandchildren; one step-daughter, Linda S. A.B. MIDGETT, 59, BEACH BUSINESSMAN - VIRGINIA BEACH - Al Baum MIDGETT, 59, of 100 N. Dogwood Road, the owner and operator of A.B. Midgett Co. for the last 28 years, died Saturday in a Portsmouth hospital. He was a native of Currituck and was the husband of May Henry Sadler MIDGETT. He was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach, a past president of Virginia Beach Rotary Club and its 1969 Rotarian of the Year and a charter member and past captain of Virginia Beach Rescue Squad. He attended the University of Tennessee and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Other survivors include two sons, Richard Sadler MIDGETT and Alfred Baum MIDGETT; a sister, Gerry M. ASHBURN; and three brothers: Ralph Alfred MIDGETT, JR., James Halstead MIDGETT and Robert Preston MIDGETT, all of Virginia Beach. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. William F. SUMMERS. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. Maestas Funeral Home is handling arrangements. KILL DEVIL HILLS - Anthony Lynn "Tony" MIDGETT, 16, of Colington Harbor, died May 24 in a Norfolk, Va. hospital. He was born in Elizabeth City but lived most of his life in Currituck County. He was a student at Currituck County High School where he was a member of the junior varsity football team and the Future Farmers Of America. He is the son of Gilbert "Joe" and Deborah Cooper MIDGETT of Colington Harbour. Besides his parents, surviving are a sister, Deborah Joy MIDGETT of the home; maternal grandparents, William Anthony COOPER of Elizabeth City and Faye Cooper SANDERS of Dade City, Fla.; paternal grandparents, Claude Aldo MIDGETT of Poplar Branch and Verlin Faye MIDGETT of Grandy; paternal great-grandmother, Queenie W. COOPER of Elizabeth City and paternal great-grandfather, Charlie Cecil BRICKHOUSE of Grandy. Funeral services will be held May 28 in the Grandy Assembly of God by the Rev. Ken DURHAM and the Rev. Ara Edison MIDGETT, JR.
Ara Edison (Ed) MIDGETT, JR., age 85 was called home peacefully in his sleep on Monday November 6, 2017. He was born to the late Ara Edison MIDGETT, SR. and Blanche Rogers MIDGETT on April 4,1932. Ed is predeceased by his wife of 66 years Garnet Forbes MIDGETT and is survived by his 3 children Daryl Stephen MIDGETT, Ara Edison MIDGETT, III and Katrina Midgett SHINN, sister Margarette Midgett UMPHLETT, brother Lynn Rogers MIDGETT, sister-in-law Nancy MIDGETT, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Ed met his sweetheart for life while in high school in Poplar Branch NC. They married in 1951 when Ed joined the US Navy and served on the USS RANDALL. He later enlisted in the US Coast Guard and reported aboard the US Coast Guard Cutter MENDOTA. He served at the following duty stations Groton Connecticut, Pensacola Florida, Corpus Christi Texas, Miami Florida, Annette Island Alaska, Springfield, Virginia, Bangkok, Thailand, and finally as Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City North Carolina. Ed retired as a Captain after 30 years and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and Legion of Merit. He then took on another career for 10 years as President of Dolphin Systems, a major defense contractor in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. There he was responsible for getting the company back on its feet and thriving successfully. Ed had a passion for golf and after their kids were grown and gone, Ed and Garnet decided to make their home in Beverly Hills, Florida for the next 20 years in a beautiful golf community where he could play golf as much as he wanted. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held for Ed and his wife Garnet who deceased 3 weeks earlier. Service will be held Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Citrus Springs Community Congregational Christian Church 9220 N. Citrus Springs Blvd, Citrus Springs, Florida. Arrangements are being provided by Strickland's Funeral Home in Crystal River, Fl. The family is planning a private burial in the family plot in Jarvisburg, NC at a later date to be determined. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Ed during his illness. POWELLS POINT - Mrs. Bessie Allen Stone MIDGETT, 86, of Route 1, died Feb. 24, in Chesapeake General Hospital. Mrs. MIDGETT was the widower of the late Willie MIDGETT. She was a native of Bunnlevel (Harnett County), the daughter of the late Jim ALLEN and Mrs. Kate Parker ALLEN. Survivors include one daughter, Sallie TEBO of Powells Point; three sons, Henry STONE of Powells Point, Lyman H. STONE, JR. of Virginia Beach, Va. and James L. STONE of Macon, Ga.; two sisters: Mary GUNTER of Moncure and Rebecca WEAVER of Durham; one brother, S.D. ALLEN of Merry Oats; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at Powells Point Baptist Church by the Revs. Joe MILLER and Herbert HEMINGWAY. Burial was in the church cemetery. Twiford's Memorial Chapel was in charge. JARVISBURG - Mrs. Connie L. MIDGETT "Dianne", 64 of Jarvisburg went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 9, 2013. Born August 16, 1948, Dianne was the daughter of the late Polly O. LEWIS and James M. LEWIS, SR. and was predeceased by her husband, the late Rhondal L. "Ronnie" MIDGETT, SR. Dianne was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, the most loyal of friends, and a faithful servant of God. Memories of Dianne and her famous fudge layer cakes will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to have known her. Dianne is survived by two sons: Ronnie MIDGETT and Kevin MIDGETT, both of Kill Devil Hills; two daughters: Debbie JERNIGAN and husband, Clift of Southern Shores , and Cindy GROSSKOPF and husband, Randy of Creedmoor; ten grandchildren: Omie and Jonathan GALLOP, Joey and Jeremy SALTER, Aaron GROSSKOPF, Elyse and Jack MIDGETT, and Emily, Ric, and Caitlyn JERNIGAN. Also surviving is one sister: Martha L. LEWIS of Powells Point; two brothers: James M. LEWIS, JR. of Kill Devil Hills and Raymond F. LEWIS of Grandy. Mrs. MIDGETT is predeceased by a brother, William T. LEWIS and a sister, Bernice R. LEWIS. Visitation will be held at the Poplar Branch Baptist Church on Monday, May 13th from 11:00AM to 12:00PM and will be followed by a celebration of life at the Grandy Assembly of God Church at 1:00 PM. Mrs. MIDGETT is survived by a daughter, Stacie DAVIS of Point Harbor, NC; three sons, Vernon TWIFORD of Powells Point, NC, Jeff DAVIS of Amelia, OH, and Kevin DAVIS of Grandy, NC; a brother, Ezekiel W. NORFOLK - Edwin Vance MIDGETT, SR., age 55, retired Chief U.S. Coast Guard, died in the Kecoughton Veterans Hospital Friday, March 28, 1959 after a long illness. He was a son of the late Minnie and Mr. Peleg S. MIDGETT and the husband of Mrs. Elsie Grandy MIDGETT. He was a native of Manns Harbor, N.C. and had lived in Oceana for 21 years. He was a member of the Scott Memorial Methodist Church. He was a veteran of WW II and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign aboard the USS Manley. In addition to his wife, surviving are four daughters: Mrs. Audrey M. DENKLER of Chevy Chase, Maryland, Geraldine M. MICHAEL of Hamilton, Ohio, Mrs. Jane M. MILIGAN of Oceana and Alice Faye MIDGETT of Oceana; two sons: John E. MIDGETT of Clinton, Maryland and Edwin V. "Joc" MIDGETT JR. of Oceana; five brothers: Levene G. VIRGINIA BEACH -- Elsie Grandy MIDGETT, 96, of the 300 block of West Lane, passed away in her sleep Wednesday morning, Feb. 27, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin V. MIDGETT and her son, John E. MIDGETT. She is survived by four daughters, Audrey M. DENKLER and husband John of Alexandria, Va., Jane Flach KELLER and husband of Athens, Ga., Geraldine M. MICHAEL and her husband, William of Winter Haven, Fla., and Alice Faye BEAN of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; a son, Edwin V. MIDGETT, JR. (Joe) and wife Nancy of Winter Haven; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rosewood Memorial Park by Pastor James ULLIAN. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at H.D. Oliver Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. Garnet Ruth Forbes MIDGETT, age 85, was called home peacefully in her sleep on Friday 13, 2017. She was born to the late Dewey and Ruth Foster FORBES on January 30, 1932. Garnet is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Ara Edison MIDGETT, JR., her three children; Daryl Stephen MIDGETT, Katrina Midgett SHINN, and Ara Edison MIDGETT, III, and also eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Garnet met the love of her life, Ed MIDGETT, as high school sweethearts in the small eastern North Carolina community of Poplar Branch. They married in 1951 when Ed joined the Navy and spent the next 30 years traveling the world together with three children in tow. Among the places stationed during Ed's distinguished career were Miami, Florida (during the Bay of Pigs), Annette Island, Alaska (17 miles in diameter), Washington, DC, Bangkok, Thailand, and ending in Elizabeth City, NC, where Ed retired as Captain in the US Coast Guard in charge of the largest air search and rescue station in the world. Garnet was a beautiful and inspiring person who raised her children in the light of her unconditional love. A tireless homemaker most of this time, Garnet ran her own dress shop in Elizabeth City for 8 years after her children left the nest. A devoted mother, wife and grandmother, she and Ed retired to Beverly Hills, Fl. in 1996 where they both fell in love with the rolling hills, moss covered trees and horse farms of north western Florida. The family is planning a private burial in the family plot in Jarvisburg, NC at a date to be determined. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for Garnet during her last illness. He was born in Currituck County, N.C., son of Elsie Grandy MIDGETT and the late Edwin Vance MIDGETT, SR. He was a retired master CPO in the U.S. Navy with 23 years of service, as well as being retired from the City of Virginia Beach. Besides his mother, he is survived by three daughters: Judi A. SANDS, Donna M. MIDGETT and Deborah J. REIBEL and husband Timothy, all of Virginia Beach; two sons: Jeffrey A. MIDGETT and wife Reba of Virginia Beach and David B. MIDGETT and wife Renee of Chesapeake; four sisters: Audrey DENKLER of Alexandria, Va., Jane Flach KELLER of Athens, Ga., Geraldine MICHAEL of Winterhaven, Fla., and Alice Faye BEAN of Mount Juliet, Tenn; a brother, Edwin Vance MIDGETT, JR. of Winterhaven; 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and his beloved canine companions, Mollie and Bear. A long illness claimed Lloyd MIDGETT, 47, a popular citizen of Manteo who died at the family residence at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday. He had been engaged in the taxi business in Manteo for several years and operated a grocery store at Wanchese. For many years he was employed by Capt. Tom BAUM on the Croatan Sound ferries. He was a member of the Manteo Baptist Church. He was a native of Powells Point, Currituck County, and had lived in Manteo for the last 35 years. He was the son of Mrs. Sallie Coefield MIDGETT and the late John W. MIDGETT. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elnora Gallop MIDGETT; two daughters: Mrs. Minnie SIEBERT and Miss Linda MIDGETT, all of Manteo; one brother, Louis MIDGETT of Norfolk; and one grandchild. The funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Manteo Baptist Church by Rev. W.E. CHOLERTON, the paster, and assisted by Holiness minister, Ernest ETHERIDGE of Wanchese. "Whispering Hope" and "Safe In the Arms of Jesus" were sung by the church choir. The casket was covered with a pall of red and white carnations. Born in Norfolk, VA, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Vone and Pearl White JOHNSON and was the wife of Ezekiel Worth MIDGETT, SR. of the home. Ralph Alfred MIDGETT, JR.
VIRGINIA BEACH - Ralph Alfred MIDGETT, JR. of Virginia Beach, born March 20, 1921, died peacefully March 30, 2011, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle to quite a clan of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two wives, Josephine Seydel MIDGETT, then Nell Webb MIDGETT; as well as brothers, A. B. MIDGETT and Robert P. MIDGETT; and a sister, Geraldine Midgett ASHBURN. Survivors include three children, Phyllis CAPWELL, Clinton MIDGETT and wife Elizabeth DOVEL, Patricia BOND and husband Ronn BOND; his brother, James H. MIDGETT and his wife Anne; two sisters-in-law, May Henry MIDGETT and Nancy MIDGETT; granddaughter, Amber AGEE-DeHART and husband Chris DeHART; great-granddaughter, Lauren DeHART. Born in Coinjock, N.C., he moved to Virginia Beach in 1926. With his father, he herded cattle along the beach from Nags Head, N.C., to Virginia Beach in 1933, driving them up 17th Street to Rosemont, the family farm. Following graduation from Oceana High School in 1940, he joined the U.S. Navy the same year. Trained as a gunner on a liberty ship, he made the terrifying Mermansk Run in December 1944 for which he was awarded the Russian Victory Medal by Boris YELTSIN in 1993. He was also present at Omaha Beach D-Day plus 10 hours carrying troops to the landing. Following World War II, he graduated from CAL Aero Tech in 1947. Then he returned to the East Coast to operate a small plane workshop in Williamsburg where he joined the Air Force Reserve, was activated in 1950 and sent to Korea as an F-84 line chief. Afterwards, he worked for Piedmont Airlines, then in several arenas of car and ship repair. From his early years through adulthood, Ralph was an avid horseback rider. In 1960 with his first wife Josephine, an accomplished horsewoman, he established and ran Princess Anne Stables. Meanwhile, his experience with ship repair led him to many years as a yachtsman, owning and living aboard both sailboats and trawlers. Ralph spent his last years enjoying the company of his second wife Nell WEBB and her extended family, first living on 54th Street, then at Atlantic Shores. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at First Presbyterian Church in the chapel on Pacific Avenue and 36th Street. Sallie Sue Coffield MIDGETT
NORFOLK, VA. – Mrs. Sallie Sue Coffield MIDGETT, 84, died in a Norfolk hospital Tuesday at 8:10 a.m. after a short illness. She was a native of Bertie County and lived in Manteo most all her life, many years before residing in Norfolk at 8009 Galveston Blvd. the last year. She lived for a few years in Currituck County where the family engaged in farming. She was the widow of John W. MIDGETT and was a member of Manteo Baptist Church. Her husband was a long time Captain of the ferries at Roanoke Island. She is survived by a son, Louis Clyde MIDGETT of Norfolk; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. The body was taken from Derry-Twiford Funeral Home to Manteo Baptist Church Thursday at 1 p.m. for a funeral service at 2 p.m. The Rev. M.J. DAVIS officiated. Burial was in the Manteo Cemetery where he husband was buried several years ago. She was the mother of the late Miss Clara MIDGETT who died in Richmond and the late Lloyd MIDGETT, a well-known taxicab driver and merchant of Manteo. (The Coastland Times November 24, 1961)

HARBINGER - Susan "Sue" Kay Patterson MIDGETT, 51, of 211 Church Road, Harbinger, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2011 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Pearl PATTERSON. She is survived by her husband, Michael Alan MIDGETT; mother-in-law, Betty MIDGETT; and family. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends at the residence. SUFFOLK - Thomas Lee MIDGETT, SR., of Jackson Street, died Jan. 17, 1992 in a hospital. Mr. MIDGETT was born in Chesapeake. He was a member of Samuel Chapel Holiness Church. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy I. MIDGETT; a son, Thomas L. MIDGETT, JR. of Suffolk; his father, George MIDGETT of Chesapeake; two sisters: Julia ALLEN of Norfolk and Louise WILLIAMS of Atlanta; and five brothers: George MIDGETT, JR., and Eddie MIDGETT, both of Chesapeake, Roy MIDGETT of Portsmouth and William MIDGETT and Robert MIDGETT, both of Virginia Beach. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Samuel Chapel Holiness Church in Moyock by Elder Little Joe POWELL. Burial will be in the church cemetery. GRANDY - Mrs. Verlin Faye MIDGETT, 60, passed away Tuesday, February 12 in the family home in Grandy. She is survived by her father and his wife, Charlie and Ann BRICKHOUSE; brothers and sister-in-law: Tilbert R. & Sharon BRICKHOUSE, Gilbert J. & Stephanie BRICKHOUSE; and sister and brother-in-law, Sandra & Glen FARMER; and her former spouse and the father of her children, Claude A. MIDGETT. She was a loving mother and supporter of 6 children and their spouses, Leland "Peanut", Gilbert "Joe", and Debbie, Robert "Robbie", Cecil and Jenea, William "Ike", and Ella K. "Sissie" MIDGETT. Verlin was the grandmother of 12 grandchildren: James & wife Toni, Jennifer and Justin, Anthony and Debbie, Nicki Lynn, Brandon, Lauren, Dominique, Devyn and D'Amore and Macie. She was the great-grandmother of Evan "Lil T" Smith. Verlin was predeceased by her mother, Verlin Minerva BRICKHOUSE and her grandson, Anthony Lynn "Tony" MIDGETT. She spent her life dedicated to her family, supporting various county athletic teams and events and working as a county bus driver. Providing a hand to hold, a shoulder to cry on an an ear to listen, she gave care and love to all throughout her life and she will be greatly missed by her community. Neither time nor tears can ever replace the great loss experienced through this tragedy. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Poplar Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. William Russell MIDGETT
HARBINGER - William Russell MIDGETT set sail on his last voyage unexpectedly January 17, 2020 at his Harbinger, NC home. William, or as most knew him "Russell" was 58. Though he was born in Elizabeth City, NC Russell spent most of his life in Currituck county. He was the son of the late William Ambrose MIDGETT and Betty Jean Gallop MIDGETT. Russell joins his brother, Michael MIDGETT in Heaven since 2015. In his youth, Russell loved baseball and was an excellent pitcher. Later on in his life, he answered the call of the ocean and became a successful commercial fisherman. Russell spent many years working aboard the "Dana Bill." Besides fishing, Russell was passionate about NASCAR and even drove race cars. He also loved a good western movie. Left to cherish their memories of William is his mother, Betty MIDGETT of Barco, NC; his sister, Tammy K. MIDGETT of Harbinger; his two uncles Ezekiel “Worth” MIDGETT and Reverend Walter GALLOP both of Harbinger; his two aunts, Virginia "Ginger" BOWDEN and Gladys Annette SAWYER also of Harbinger, and several cousins, extended family members and friends. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Stumpy Point and attended Powells Point Christian Church. She was the daughter of the late John C. and Mabel Payne SHELTON. Mrs. MIDGETTE is survived by her husband, Forrest E. MIDGETTE of the residence; a son, Jeremy D. MIDGETTE of Harbinger; a brother, James R. "Buddy" SHELTON and wife Dabni of Stumpy Point; four half sisters, Pamela W. Mrs. MIDGETTE was a native of Pasquotank County, NC and the daughter of the late Horace J. and Mrs. Agnes Wise BARNETT. Mrs. MIDGETTE had retired from the Pasquotank County Health Department. Gladys Parker MIDGETTE, 81, of 117 Parkers Landing Drive, Point Harbor, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012 at her residence. A native of Currituck County, she was the daughter of the late John Benjamin PARKER and Nancy Virginia PARKER and the widow of H. B. MIDGETTE, JR. She was a homemaker and a member of the Shag Club where she enjoyed dancing. She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Marie WALKER and husband, Barry, of Grandy, Wanda Gaye BEASLEY and husband, B. Winslow Memorial Home following a brief illness. Born in Currituck County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Major Alonzo WRIGHT and Mary Gibbs WRIGHT and was the wife of the late Dennis Wilfred MIDGETTE, SR. Mrs. MIDGETTE was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was active in many facets of the church. She was a devout Christian lady. Mrs. MIDGETTE is survived by her sons, Dennis Wilfred MIDGETTE, JR. and wife Sue of Chesapeake and Evan James "Jim" MIDGETTE and wife Susan of Greenville, N.C.; a sister, Mary HAYDEN of Norfolk; six grandchildren, James, Nancy, Michelle, Dennis III, Sara and Jeff; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Mrs. MIDGETTE was born in Hatteras and was a homemaker and member of the Hatteras United Methodist Church and the order of the Eastern Star Chapter, Juneau, Alaska. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Violet Willis BURRUS and the wife of the late Edward B. MIDGETTE. Surviving are a daughter, Linda M. DUGAN of Virginia Beach; a son, Wayne MIDGETTE of Buxton, N.C.; a sister, Ola AUSTIN of Manteo, N.C.; grandchildren, Marci ODEN, Monica MIDGETTE and Scott MIDGETTE; and great-grandchild, Benjamin MIDGETTE. SHAWBORO, N.C. - Marjorie Ferebee MIDGETTE, 75, a native of Gregory, died Tuesday in a hospital. Mrs. MIDGETTE formerly taught in Camden and Currituck county schools and was a former proofreader for the Daily Advance newspaper. She was a member of Sawyers Baptist Church where she served as church clerk. Survivors include her husband, Walter L. MIDGETTE; a daughter, Martha RAPPOLT, and a son, Walter MIDGETTE, both of Gregory; and a grandchild. The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Highland Park Cemetery by the Rev. Martha Alice Fulcher MIDGETTE died at her home in Norfolk [no date]. She was the widow of Little Bannister MIDGETTE and the daughter of William T. FULCHER and Anna Wright FULCHER. She was a native of Powells Point but have lived in Norfolk for 38 years. Surviving are a daughter, Joanna E. MIDGETTE of Norfolk; three step-daughters: Mrs. I.V. WILLIS of Harkers Island, Mrs. Rebecca MILLER of Colington and Mrs. A. PERRY of Portsmouth; three sons: Washington F. MIDGETTE and William W. MIDGETTE of South Norfolk and Henry G. MIDGETTE of Norfolk; three step-sons: Watson MIDGETTE of Norfolk, Ryan N. MIDGETTE of Wanchese and Marvin L. MIDGETTE of Kitty Hawk; one brother, John FULCHER of Currituck; two half-brothers: Dick and Linwood FULCHER of Currituck. Burial was at Forest Lawn in Norfolk. MOYOCK - Roland Lee MIDGETTE, III, 52, passed away unexpectedly on July 17, 2012. A devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend and employee, he was born August 20, 1959 and was affectionately nicknamed Scooter. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Kathleen King MIDGETTE and their fiesty little dog Peekaboo; daughters, Rebecca MIDGETTE and her fiance Justin ANDERSON, and Sarah MIDGETTE; father, Roland MIDGETTE, JR.; sister, Lee Ann WRIGHT and her husband, Ricki; brother, Andrew MIDGETTE and his wife, Cathy and their children, Drew and Ryan. Roland was a master electrician and dedicated employee for 30 years at Ford and the US Government, Department of Defense. His strong work ethic and exceptional talents won him frequent awards and promotions. He was a proud Shriner. He loved the Outer Banks and his pontoon boat, family vacations and country music. He was a great family man and so very proud of his daughters. As he requested, his ashes will be spread on the ocean. Roger Cona MIHOVCH, 80, of Grandy, NC died Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Currituck Health & Rehab Center. He was born on July 31, 1941, in Virginia. He was the son of the late Andrew and Hilda Briggs MIHOVCH. Roger retired from CenturyLink as a cable splicer. He was a member of Powells Point Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Roger continued to serve his community retiring from the Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department. Roger is survived by his wife, Kay Gray MIHOVCH; two children, Bonnie Mihovch WHITE (Ken) and Roger Allen MIHOVCH (Dana); five grandchildren, Sean, Bridget, Nikki, Chance, and Max; and sister-in-law, Ann MIHOVCH. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alice PARKER; and a brother, Andy MIHOVCH. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Powells Point Baptist Church with Rev. Adam TAYLOR officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. He was a Methodist and served in the Army in the 82nd Airborne Division. Survivors include his wife, Donna Lee Jackson MILES; two sons: Edwin W. Anita Louise Goodman MILLER, 75 of 122 North Point Boulevard, Moyock, NC died Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at her residence. A native of Winfall, NC she was born May 3, 1942 to the late Edward A. “Chub” Goodman and Audrey Stanton GOODMAN and was the widow of William Frazier MILLER. She was a homemaker and loved gardening and sports, though her greatest joy was serving her lord and savior. She was an active member of South Mills Church of Christ and served on numerous ministries. She is survived by four sons, Johnny P. MILLER and wife Cathy of Poplar Branch, NC, Larry E. MILLER and wife Kaye of Chesapeake, VA, William T. MILLER of Chesapeake, VA, and Jeffery A. MILLER and wife Donna of Chesapeake, VA; a sister, Darlene Goodman HARRELL and husband Jimmy of Hertford, NC; a brother, Clarence B. GOODMAN and wife Deborah of Edenton, NC; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Willis E. “Buddy” GOODMAN. Eldon Lee MILLER, JR., 112 Katie’s Court, Moyock, NC died Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Sentara Leigh Medical Center. Mr. MILLER was born August 14, 1926 in Northwest (Chesapeake), VA to Eldon Lee and Katie Belle Vandegrift MILLER. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Morris “Ann” Huss MILLER. Mr. MILLER retired from the US Army after forty three years active and reserve duty having served in both World War II and the Korean War. After his active military service, he was employed by the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a shipfitter, planner and estimator for thirty eight years. He was Planning Manager of ship repair for the Royal Saudi Navy in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for seven years. He served as Office Manager for E. L. Miller, III & Sons Heating and Cooling for twenty eight years. He was a dedicated member of the Moyock Baptist Church giving countless hours as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, Secretary, Treasurer and Trustee. Mr. MILLER was a Boy Scout Leader, a Mason, founder and past president of the Moyock Ruritan Club and a Currituck County Commissioner for twelve years. Additionally, he was Quarter Master for the Moyock VFW Post # 10949 and a member of AMVETS. He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Lynn JOHNSON and husband Eric of Ceres, CA; two sons, Eldon Lee MILLER, III and wife Kim of Moyock, NC and Michael Ray MILLER and wife Kathy of Norfolk, VA; seven grandchildren, Matthew A. MILLER (Christina), Stephen L. MILLER (Michelle), Nabiel N. ALAWAR, Ryan N. ALAWAR, Rhonya A. ALAWAR, Daniel R. MILLER (Christy) and Luke A. Henry Richard MILLER, 74, of 202 Maple Road, Maple, NC died Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Chesapeake General Hospital. Mr. MILLER, a native of Currituck County, was the son of the late Wallace MILLER and Ethel Doxey MILLER and the husband of Phyllis Ann Pierce MILLER of the residence. He was an Outside Machinist at the shipyard, a U.S. Army Veteran, a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion and known as the “Lawnmower Man” in Maple. AYDLETT - Richard Clyde MILLER, SR., 71, of Aydlett, NC entered heaven on October 4, 2014. Richard, son of Marguerite and Elwood, loving husband of Evelyn Blair MILLER, passed away at his home in Aydlett, NC after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma. He is survived by his wife Evelyn, his brother Gary, three children: Michelle Renee (42), Richard Clyde Jr. (38) and James Matthew (30) and grandson Joseph Sawyer (7). Richard was active in his local church and always held a strong faith. He served as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps the Vietnam War. Richard had a great love for his family, his career, and his close circle of friends who were there every step of the way. As a contractor, land developer, and real estate broker, he truly encompassed what it means to be a Renaissance Man. Richard always maintained a painfully optimistic attitude about life and love. Never one to let sadness reign, Richard was the man to put a smile on your face and remind you how life can only get better if you let it. We know he is smiling down on us from heaven, hopefully with his golf clubs in hand, because we still know how much he needs to work on his putts. He was a construction supervisor and a member of Geneva Baptist Church. Richard was a hardworking man who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He always had a smile and was a loving and much loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed. In addition to Brenda, his wife of twenty-six years, Richard leaves a daughter Sherry L. Funeral services for Richard Thomas MILLER, who died Friday night in the Albemarle Hospital, were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock in the chapel of the Twiford Funeral Home. Rev. Jack PAGE, pastor officiated, Rev. O. H. WEST, pastor of the Charity Methodist Church at Princess Anne, Assisted. "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" and "Farther Along" was sung by Mrs. Walter WILLIAMS, W. H. TRUEBLOOD, James DAVIS, and Carl Lee ANDERSON; Mrs. A. F. CROCKER accompanied at the piano. The casket was covered with a pall of pink and white carnations, static, and fern. Pallbearers were; Alvah WATERFIELD, Luther R. MILLER, R. L. LOVITT, Lewis MURPHY, Hubert LANE and Floyd RIGGS. Burial followed in the Nimmo Church Cemetery at Princess Anne, Va. MOYOCK, N.C. - Robert Lee "Blue Mist" MILLER, SR., 61 of Rt.1 A farmer and welder, died June 2, 1991, in Chesapeake Hospital. Mr. MILLER was a native of Princess Anne County, Va. Survivors include his wife Doris Grimstead MILLER three daughters; Joyce M. HUGHES of Moyock, NC; and Brenda M. DOUGLAS and Goldie M. DILLINGHAM, both of South Mills, NC; two sons; Robert L. MILLER, JR. and Richard D. MILLER, both of Moyock, NC; two sisters; Doris M. GRIMSTEAD and Elizabeth M. ANDERSON both of Gibbs Woods, NC; four brothers; Henry E. MILLER of Gibbs Woods, NC; Emery W. MILLER, LeRoy C. MILLER, and James E. MILLER all of Moyock, NC; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 am. Wallace Lee MILLER, JR.
MOYOCK - Moyock, NC – Wallace Lee MILLER, JR., 74, passed away September 28, 2006. Mr. MILLER was born in Maple, NC to the late Wallace L. MILLER, SR., and Annie Ethel MILLER. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and crabber. He is predeceased by his wife Edna Earle McPHERSON. Left to cherish his memory are his three daughters, Connie Faye BERRY, husband Roger, of Camden, Sharon Lee HUNT, husband Larry, of Moyock, Cheryl Ann BAILEY, husband Charles, of Moyock; two sons, Terry Lester MILLER, wife Ruth, of California, Bobby Rydell MILLER, wife Anita, of Moyock; his two sisters, Cora BEASLEY of Fayetteville, Effie Rae TURNER of Chesapeake; two brothers, Henry MILLER of Maple and Fleetwood KATON of Maple; and seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Services will be at Twiford’s Colonial Chapel, 929 S. Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake, on Sunday, 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, 7:00 to 8:30 PM. William F. MILLER
MOYOCK - William F. "Bill" MILLER, 62, died Oct. 16, 2003 in his home surrounded by his family. Born in Elizabeth City, N.C., Mr. MILLER was the son of the late Paul Glenn Sr. and Edna Palmer MILLER. He was employed at Colonial Chevrolet in Norfolk for 35 years as a technician and service manager. During his career at Colonial he was president of "Only The Best" for three terms. This honor was achieved by competing with 55 other dealerships throughout the Washington zone. He also won numerous "Technician of the Month" and "Tech of the Year" awards. Mr. MILLER was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Cavalier Sportsman Club for 30 years and president for 10 years. He was a member of the Southwark Hunt Club for 27 years. Bill was a member of South Mills Church of Christ. Mr. MILLER is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Anita Louise MILLER; four sons: Johnny P. MILLER and wife, Cathy of Aydlett, N.C., Larry E. MILLER and wife, Kaye, William T. MILLER and wife, Andrea and Jeffrey A. MILLER and wife, Donna, all of Chesapeake; a brother, Paul Glenn MILLER, JR. and wife, Earlene; a sister, Garnet HARPER, all of Raleigh, N.C.; and nine grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Great Bridge Chapel, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. The Rev. Ron STUART and the Rev. William Gregory MILLER
HARBINGER - William Gregory MILLER loved and lived to spend time with his family. He was the son of Josephine and Jerome MILLER and the brother to Joan and Michael. He married his high school sweetheart Maureen and had four children: William (Elizabeth), Kathleen (Clint), Russell (Anna), and Brandis (Richard). He wasn't just a husband and father; he was also their best friend. One of his favorite things to do was to boogie board on the Outer Banks. He was a man who loved to laugh, but more importantly to him, he loved to make others laugh. His life advice, dad-jokes, hilarious stories, outlandish sayings, and talent for nicknames will live on through his grandchildren: Madyson (Booballaddy), Michaela (Blonde My Friend), Liam (Business), Eli (Super Mario), Charlotte (Charley), Preston (Dennis the Menace), and soon to be with us William (Willie T). G-Man passed away on July 26, 2021 and swam out for his last earthly paddle session July 29, 2021 with his wife and children waving him off of their dock that held so many memories. Herman MILLS
Herman “Nat” MILLS was called to serve a higher authority on December 10, 2020 at the age of 87, in Grandy, NC. He was born on Sept 10, 1933 in Greenville, NC. Nat was raised in Greenville until 1951 when he joined the Navy and served his country honorably for 32 years. He retired from the Navy in 1983 as a Parachute Rigger Master Chief (PRCM). He continued to serve the Navy in a civilian capacity as a contractor for Logistics Management Engineering, Inc. studying the effects on personnel using aircraft ejections seats. He finally settled down in Grandy NC in 1991. Still not done serving his community, Nat worked tirelessly on the church board at Mount Zion United Methodist Church. He was a wonderful family man, a dedicated husband, and loyal friend. Nat was very generous with his time and always went out of his way to help those in need. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 31 years, Patricia; his son, Donald MILLS (Annette); son-in-law Danny REEVES of Chesapeake; Patricia’s children, Michael BORKOWSKI (Jean), Matthew BORKOWSKI (Helen Ortel), and Kathy VERELL (David); and thirteen grandchildren. Nat was predeceased by his daughter, Julie REEVES. A private family interment will be held at Laurel Memorial Gardens, with a celebration of life held at a later date at Mt. MOYOCK - Theresa Mims GLEASON, 38, of the 100 block of Chestnut Drive, died May 7, 2007, at 11:20 a.m. in Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, N.C., and her mother, Barbara Sharon Arant MIMS, 61, of the 100 block of Chestnut Drive, died May 7, 2007, at 3:30 p.m. in her residence. Mrs. GLEASON was born in Dougherty County, Albany, Ga. She was the daughter of Jimmie W. MIMS and the late Barbara Arant MIMS of Moyock. She attended Come As You Are Ministries and was formerly employed as business manager with IHOP Restaurants. Survivors include her husband, Robert Dexter GLEASON of Virginia Beach; her sons, Barry Colburn GREGORY, III and Jeremy Dexter GLEASON, both of Moyock; her father; brothers, James Dalton MIMS, II and wife Rebecca and Robert Clarence MIMS and wife Sedonia, both of Moyock. Barbara Arant "Sharon" MIMS was born in Clanton, Ala., and was the daughter of the late Clarence ARANT and Myrtle Hand ARANT. She was a member of the Come As You Ministries, former member of the Crawford Township Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad and a former Boy Scout Leader of Troop No. 127 and member of the Coinjock American Legion Post No. 288 Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Jimmie W. MIMS; sons, James Dalton MIMS and wife Rebecca and Robert Clarence MIMS and wife Sedonia, both of Moyock; brother, Stanley ARANT of Clanton; her grandchildren, Barry COLBURN, III, Robin Theresa MIMS, James DALTON, III, Jeremy Dexter GLEASON and Dalton Robert MIMS; and two great-grandsons, Carson Andrew SHARBER and Bradley SHARBER. She was predeceased by her daughter, Theresa Mims GLEASON. A memorial service for Sharon and Theresa will be held in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Wayne SAWYER officiating. Mrs. Alyce Hampton MINGES, 88, of 1000 Wesley Pines Road, Lumberton, N.C., died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at home. Mrs. MINGES was born May 24, 1919, in Coinjock, N.C., the daughter of the late Paul and Ina HAMPTON and was predeceased by her husband, Herman Setzer MINGES and grandson, Clyde Maxwell STEPHENS. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 202 W. 24th St., Lumberton, N.C. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Cemetery. She is survived by her daughters, Jenifer Minges KAY of Wake Forest, N.C., and Paula Minges VEST of Southport, N.C.; her sister and brother-in-law, Elinor and Charles JONES of Elizabeth City, N.C.; her grandchildren, Richard Warren STEPHENS of New Orleans, La. and Maxwell Parker VEST and Gwendolyn Alyce VEST of Southport; son-in-law, Dan KAY of Wake Forest; son-in-law, Buck VEST of Oak Island, N.C.; and nephew, Charles JONES, JR. of Elizabeth City. Edward Eugene MITCHELL, 79 of 254 Shortcut Road, Barco, NC died Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at his residence. A native of Brownfield, PA, he was the son of the late Jesse Eugene MITCHELL and Mildred Maxine Elsey MITCHELL and the husband of Peggy J. MITCHELL of the residence. He was a retired commercial truck driver after forty-two years, a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War, a lifetime member of the American Legion, Coinjock Hut, Post #288, a Christian, and a member of the USS Iowa Association. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Adonica L. Mitchell DADICH of Akron, OH; two sons, Edward E. MITCHELL, II and wife Joyce of Tallmadge, OH and William E. MITCHELL and wife Denise of Hertford, NC; three sisters, Judy L. FRYE of Uniontown, OH, Jeannette MITCHELL of Akron, OH, and Patricia J. REED of Chester, VA; a twin brother, Richard F. MITCHELL of Baltimore, MD; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. A memorial service will be Friday, November 21, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Albert G. Myrtle Higson MIZELL
ELIZABETH CITY - Myrtle Higson MIZELL, 92, Pasquotank Station Road, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 4, 2003 in Chesapeake. Born in Bellhaven, N.C., she was the widow of the late Dellie Armstrong MIZELL. Myrtle was a member of Level Green Baptist Church in Virginia Beach. She enjoyed missions work, teaching Sunday school and any activity with the church. She was also a member of the Chesapeake Senior Citizens, Niners Group. Survivors include one daughter, Linda Faye VIRDEN and husband Harry of Peoria, Ill.; three sons, David MIZELL, Steve MIZELL and wife Elizabeth and James MIZELL, all of Elizabeth City; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. Interment will follow in Moyock Memorial Cemetery. COINJOCK – Elizabeth Baker MIZELLE, 72, died Nov. 18, 1996 at her residence. Born in Smithfield, Va., she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Lena Atkins BAKER and the widow of Joseph William MIZELLE, SR. She had been employed with Prudential Life Ins. Co. in Norfolk as office manager. She was a Baptist. She is survived by a son, Joseph W. MIZELLE, JR. of Norfolk, Va. A graveside service was held Wednesday in Moyock Memorial Park Cemetery by the Rev. Charles WELLONS. Twiford Funeral Home in Chesapeake, Va. handled arrangements.
