The photos below show 4 daughters born to John Trafton
Grandy (1878-1935) & his wife Eliza (Burgess) Grandy (1886-1957).
John was appointed postmaster of the Grandy P.O. in 1912 and again in 1927.
His daughter, Elsie Midgett was the acting Postmistress in 1925 & 1926.
Another daughter, Eunice Dowdy, was the "Officer in Charge" of the Post
Office in 1971. John and Eliza married in Currituck Co. on July 17, 1904 and they had the following known children: 1) Elsie Mae Grandy was born May 20, 1905 in Grandy, NC and died Feb. 27, 2002 in Virginia Beach, VA (see obituary). Elsie married Edwin Vance Midgett, Sr. (1903-1959) in Manteo, Dare Co., NC on April 18, 1924. Elsie & Edwin are buried in Rosewood Memorial Park Cemetery in Virginia Beach. 2) Minnie Grandy was born Jan. 4, 1907 in Currituck Co. and died in Elizabeth City, Pasquotank Co., NC on April 15, 1974. She married Edmond Cecil Owens (1899-1974) in Currituck Co. on July 23, 1927. Edmond & Minnie are buried in the Owens Cemetery in Grandy, NC.3) Hazel Marie Grandy was born in Grandy, NC on Nov. 17, 1908 and died in Grandy on Feb. 17, 1935. She married Floyd Ray Gilden, Sr. in South Mills, Camden Co., NC on Apr. 12, 1931. Hazel is buried in the Grandy Cemetery in Grandy, NC. Floyd remarried after Hazel's death. 4) Ethel Louise Grandy was born Nov. 26, 1910 and died Nov. 13, 1911. Ethel is buried in the Grandy Cemetery in Grandy, NC. 5) Eunice Louise Grandy was born Apr. 30, 1912 in Grandy, NC and died June 12, 1992 (see obituary ) in Elizabeth City, Pasquotank Co., NC. She married William Griggs Dowdy (1915-1968) in Pasquotank Co. on Mar. 5, 1934. Eunice & William are buried in the Poplar Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. 6) unnamed son born and died Aug. 13, 1913 |
