According to his
Currituck County marriage record, Valerious L. Knight [top left photo] was the son of
Valerious A. & Mary J. Knight. Valerious A. was age 15 when the 1850
Pasquotank County census was taken. He was living with the E.L.
Stephens family at that time. In 1860 V.A. Knight, age 24, and his
assumed brother, William Knight, age 28, were living in Elizabeth City with the
B.B.
Ballance family. Both were listed as mariners. Valerious A.
Knight has not been found by this researcher in any census after 1860.
By 1920 this family is living in the Pungo Dist. of Princess Anne Co., Va. as shown below.
Carrie is a widow by 1930, She shows up in the home of her daughter and son-in-law in the Virginia Beach area of Princess Anne Co., Va.
From the census records it has
been determined that Valerious L. & Carrie (Tillett) Knight had at least
three children; Comments from our submitter, Mary Addesso -- Gram [Mary Tillett Knight Malbon] died on the beach near Wash Woods. There used to be a stumpy part on the beach between Sandbridge and Corolla. Gram was driving her Jeep when she had a stroke and hit a stump. Her jeep flipped end over end. She died 8 months after the article appeared in The Beacon. She used to pile as many grandkids that would fit and drive us over and we would explore the beach and back roads with her. I was named after her and was 12 when she died. I was given her beautiful engraved gold locket that she received in 1915. |
