In the name of God Amen.
I Caleb ANSELL, SR. of Knotts Island in the County of Currituck and State of North Carolina, farmer, being in usual health of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time heretofore made.
And as to my worldly estate and all the property, real and personal of which I shall die seized and possessed, or to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease, I devise, bequeath, and dispose thereof in the manner following, to wit:
All my just debts and funeral expensis [sic] shall first, by my executor hereinafter named, be paid out of my estate as soon after my decease as shall by them be found convenient.I give, devise and bequeath to my beloved children hereinafter named, all of my estate, real and personal of which I shall die seized and possessed or to which I shall be entitled at my disease [sic] I give, devise, and bequeath to be equally divided between my sons Augustus ANSELL, Caleb ANSELL, Leonard J. ANSELL, and Walter ANSELL. I also make this request that my sons Augustus, Caleb and Leonard E. ANSELL shall see after and take care of my son Walter he being the youngest of them all, until he shall arrive at the age of fifteen years.
And lastly I do nominate and appoint my son Caleb ANSELL to be the executor of this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof, I, the said Caleb ANSELL, SR., have to this, my last will and testament contained on this sheet of paper and thereof have subscribed my [hand] and affixed my seal this __ day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and eight eight.

Signed, Sealed, published and declared by the said Caleb ANSELL, SR as and for his last will and testament in presence of us, who at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other, have subscribed our names at witnesses thereto.

EXECUTOR'S OATH
State of North Carolina } SS. In the Superior Court
Currituck County }I, Caleb ANSELL, do solemnly swear that I believe this writing to be and contain the last Will and Testament of Caleb ANSELL, SR. deceased; and that I will well and truly execute the same by first paying his debts and then his legacies, as far as the said estate shall extend, or the law will charge me; and that I will well and faithfully execute the office of an executor agreeable to the trust and confidence reposed in me, and according to law, so help me GOD.

Currituck County }A paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Caleb ANSELL, SR. deceased, is exhibited before me, the undersigned, Clerk of the Superior Court for said County, by Caleb ANSELL, JR. the executor therein mentioned, and the due execution thereof by the said Caleb ANSELL, SR. if proved by the oath and examination of Wm. A. COOPER & S.D. WATERFIELD the subscribing witnesses thereto, who being duly sworn, doth depose and say, and each for himself deposeth and saith that he is a subscribing witness to the paper writing now shown him purporting to be the last will and testament of Caleb ANSELL, SR. that the said Caleb ANSELL, SR. in the presence of this deponent, subscribed his name at the end of said paper writing, now shown as aforesaid, and which bears day of the ___ day of October 1888.
And the deponent further saith that the said Caleb ANSELL, SR., the testator aforesaid, did, at the time of subscribing his name as aforesaid, declare the said paper writing so subscribed by him and exhibited, to be his last will and testament, and this deponent did thereupon subscribe his name at the end of said will as an attesting witness thereto, and at the request and in the presence of said testator. And this deponent further saith, that at the said time when he said testator subscribed his name to the said last will as aforesaid, and at the time of deponent's subscribing his name as an attesting witness thereto, the said Caleb ANSELL, SR. was of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a will, and was not under any restraint to the knowledge, information or belief of this deponent.

State of North Carolina } In the matter of the last will of Caleb ANSELL, dec'd.
Currituck County }Caleb ANSELL being duly sworn, doth say: That Caleb ANSELL, SR., late of said County, is dead, having first made and published his last will and testament; and that Caleb ANSELL is the executor named therein. Further, that the property of the said Caleb ANSELL consisting of Household furniture is worth about $20.00 so far as can be ascertained at the date of this application, and that Augustus ANSELL, Caleb ANSELL, L.J. ANSELL, & W.F. ANSELL are the parties entitled under said will to the said property.

Currituck County } In re. to the estate of Caleb ANSELL, SR., deceasedA paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Caleb ANSELL, SR., dec'd., is exhibited in open court for probate by Caleb ANSELL, executor therein named: and the due execution thereof by the said Caleb ANSELL, SR. dec'd., is duly proven by the oath and examination of Wm. A. COOPER and S.D. WATERFIELD, subscribing witnesses thereto: and it is further shown to the satisfaction of the court by said witnesses that the said Caleb ANSELL, SR. was, at the time of making said will, of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a will and under no restraint to their knowledge, information or belief.
It is thereupon considered, adjudged and decreed that said proof is sufficient and according to law and that said paper writing is and contains the last will and testament of Caleb ANSELL, SR., dec'd. And on motion, it is ordered that said will be admitted to probate and recorded in the Book of Wills of Currituck County and as such filed as provided by law in the office of the Clerk of Superior Court of said county.
It is further ordered that said Caleb ANSELL be allowed to qualify as executor as provided by law and enter upon the discharge of the duties imposed by said trust.Dated this the 12th day of Aug. 1898.
