I William ANSELL of Knotts Island N.C. being sick in body but of perfect mind and sound memory do make & publish this my last will and testament in the manner following that is to say:
1st I give and bequeath unto my son Ezekiel one canoe.
2nd The balance of my property both real and personal I lend to my beloved wife Ann during the time that she remains my widow. At her death or marriage I then give and wish the above described real & personal property to be equally divided among all of my children.
It is also my wish that my wife Ann will pay all of my just debts.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 8th day of June in the year 1872.

A paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of William ANSELL dec'd is exhibited for probate and the due execution thereof proved by the oaths & examination of Alex SMITH and Samuel A. COOPER, witnesses thereto and it appearing upon such examination that said Wm. ANSELL was of full age of sound mind and under no undue influence or restraint it is declared by the court that the said paper writing and every part thereof is the last will and testament of Wm. ANSELL. The same is ordered to be recorded & filed July 25, 1874
