State of North Carolina, Currituck County.

In the name of God, Amen. I Joseph BALLENTINE JUR., of the county aforesaid, being weak in body, but of sound mind and memory, thanks be to God for the same do this fifteenth day of Decemb. In the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifteen, make and ordain this instrument of writing to contain my Last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows. Viz.

1 Item: After paying my just debts I give and bequeath unto my Wife Lydia BALLENTINE, all my chattle property within doors and without, consisting of stock, household goods provisions and farming utensils, to her and her heirs forever.

2 Item: I lend the use and benefit of a negro man by the name of Joe Slack, also one by the name of Joe, also one woman by the name of Patsey, also the plantation whereon I now live, by keeping my children clear of any charge, and schooling them, unto my Wife Lydia, during her natural life or widowhood, and after my Wifes death or marriage, then I give the negro man by the name of Joe Slack, to my Son Wilson, to him and his heirs forever. The other Joe aforesaid I give to my Son Kedar, to him and his heirs forever. The aforesaid negro woman Patsey I give unto the child that my Wife is now pregnant with, to that and its heirs, but should it decease, then I give the aforesaid negro woman Patsey unto my Wife Lydia to her and her and her heirs forever.

3 Item: My will and desire is that after my Wife's death or marriage, that the land that I lent to her shall be equally divided amongst all of my children then living.

4 Item: Lastly of all I do nominate and appoint my Wife Lydia and Demcy NORTHERN Executors, to this my Last Will and Testament, In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
