In the name of God Amen, August the 7th day of 1795 I Jonathan BARNES of the County of Currituck and in the State of North Carolina, Minister of the Gospel, being under the afflicting hand of Almighty God but of sound and disposing mind and memory Thanks be to the Lord for the same and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die and after death to appear in judgement I therefore recommend my sole to Almighty God that give it to me and my body to be buried in such christain like manner as shall be to the discrestion of my executors hereafter mentioned and for my worldly estate werewith it has pleased the Lord to bless me with I do bestow in the manner as followeth-----
Item I leave the use of one negro girl called Sarah to my beloved Wife Elizabeth BARNES in during her natural life or widowhood and then and at that time the afsd. Sarah and her increase to be equally divided between my two Sons Samuel BARNES and Benjamin BARNES and their heirs for ever.-----------
Item I give and bequeath all the residue of my estate both within doors and without to my beloved Wife Elizabeth BARNES and her heirs for ever in order for her to raise and educate my two Sons Samuel, Benj'n.
I constitute make and appoint my dearly beloved Wife Elizabeth BARNES to be my whole executor and executor of this my Last Will and Testament and I do hereby utterly revoke and disannul all and every other former testamental will by me in any wise before named ratifying confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixt my seal the day and date above mentioned asigned sealed published pronounced by the said Jonathan BARNES to be his last will and testament in the presents of us
