Know ye that I Sally CAVENDER of the County and State aforesaid, being taken very sudden and dangerously sick, so as to have no hopes of ever recovering and not having before disposed of my property that it has been please God to bless me with, seeing death fast approaching, and still having no opportunity of having my will reduced to writing for want of some fit person to write the same, do in the presence of the subscribers, Viz Mary T. BAUM and Parhance PUGH make this my Last Will and Testament.
Item. For the true love and affections and the many services to me rendered, I give unto my dearly beloved Brother Solomon ASHBEE all of my property, both real and personal of every kind whatever; and my will and desire is that my said Brother So. ASHBEE should take my child Joseph CAVENDER, and take suitable care of him and bring him up in a manner that he may think proper and my desire is that no other person should have any thing to do with my dearly beloved baby Jos. CAVENDER except the aforesaid So. ASHBEE or Wife Elizabeth ASHBEE, the above we the subscribers after hearing the above doth agree the above contents was the wish and desire of the above mentioned Sally CAVENDER while on her of afflction, though in her proper senses to our opinions being on the 8th day of May 1815. This we acknowledge by request of the said decd while living.

[Note: Probate date is from Currituck Co. Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions minutes. Also in court minutes, "Ordered that the right of administration on the estate of Sally CAVENDER decd wife of Joseph CARPENTER (sic) be committed to Solomon ASHBEE with the non cupative will annexed... the said non cupative will of Sally CARPENTER (sic) was exhibited and proved by Mary T. BAUM a subscribing witness... Ordered that Solomon ASHBEE be appointed Guardian to Joseph CAVENDER son of Joseph CAVENDER."].
