In the name of God Amen.
I John DOWDY SENR. Of the State of North Carolina and County of Currituck, being in a reasonable state of health and of sound mind and memory do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following, First of all my will is that after my decease all my just debts be paid by my executor hereafter named.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my Son John DOWDY one dollar to him and his heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary GRIGGS one cow and yearling and one heffer to her and her heirs.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my Son Spence DOWDY the piece of land I bought of John HEATH to him and his heirs
Item. I give and bequeath to my Son Willoughby DOWDY the piece or parcel of land that fell to me by the death of my Brother Caleb DOWDY to him and his heirs.
Item. I give unto my Wife Kezia DOWDY two beds and furniture to her and her heirs.
Item. I give unto my Son Spence DOWDY one bed and furniture
Item. I give unto my Son Willoughby DOWDY one bed and furniture
Item. I give unto my Daughter Clarkey DOWDY one bed and furniture
Item. I give unto my Daughter Lilah DOWDY one bed and furniture
Item. I give unto my Wife Kezia DOWDY, Son Spence DOWDY, Son Willoughby DOWDY, Daughter Clarkey DOWDY and Daughter Lilah DOWDY sixteen behives to be equally divided between them all, to them and their heirs.
Item. I give unto my Wife Kezia DOWDY, Son Willoughby DOWDY, Daughter Clarkey DOWDY, and Daughter Lilah DOWDY all my cattle that I have not given away to be equally divided amongst them and my will and desire is that if either of my three children Willoughby, Clarkey or Lelah should die without lawful heir or heirs begotten of there body there part of said cattle to go and descend to the surviving ones.
Item. I give unto my Wife Kezia DOWDY Son Willoughby DOWDY, Daughter Clarkey DOWDY, Daughter Lelah DOWDY my two mares to them and there heirs
Item. I give unto my Wife Kezia DOWDY Son Willoughby DOWDY Daughter Clarkey DOWDY & Daughter Lelah DOWDY all my hogs to them and there heirs.
Item. I give unto my Son Willoughby DOWDY my conow to him and his heirs.
Item. I give unto my Wife Kezia DOWDY, Son Willoughby DOWDY, Clarkey DOWDY, & Lelah DOWDY all my property not already given away both within doors and without to be equally divided amongst them, to them and there heirs.
Item. Lastly I nominate and appoint Thomas POYNER SEN. my executor to this my Last Will and Testament. In witness where of I the said John DOWDY SEN. hath hereunto set my hand and seal this 17 day of April 1824.
