The Last Will and Testament of Peter DOZIER dec’d
In the name of God Amen. This indenture made this 27th day of January 1858. Witnesseth that I Peter DOZIER of the County of Currituck State of North Carolina being of sound mind but weakened & infeebled body, do make this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other will or wills and acknowledging this my last will and testament.
1st Item I give & bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Letitia DOZIER the land upon which the house is framing from my son Peters line to the eastward ditch and from the marsh to a lane running through my land. I also bequeath to my wife all the land eastward of the fore mentioned eastern ditch which lies between the said ditch and the dams on E & W and between the fore mentioned land and a 4 foot ditch N. & E. I also give & bequeath to my wife 1 bed & bedding, 6 chairs, 2 cows and calves, 12 shoats & 1 sow during her natural life.
2nd Item I give and bequeath unto my son Wilson W. DOZIER all that piece of land which lies in the following boundaries commencing at the marsh binding the said eastern ditch on the E. to the lane thence to the dams this I give and bequeath to my son Wilson his life time and to his lawful children if he leave any and in case he leave no children the same to go to the children of my son Peter. I also give and bequeath unto said son Wilson, the first mentioned piece of land bequeathed to my wife her lifetime, at the death of my wife under the above restriction.
3rd Item I give and bequeath unto my son Peter all the land contained in the following metes and bounds viz - Commencing at the lane and running down the west side of the eastward ditch to said Peter DOZIERs line then as far as my land goes to have and to hold his natural life time and then to go to his children if he leave any, if not to go to the children of my son Wilson.
4TH Item I give and bequeath unto my Grand child Ellen DOZIER daughter of my son Peter all that tract of land known as Banks land to have & to hold forever.
5th Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth all that land lying between the following metes and bounds viz - all that piece of land eastward of the eastward ditch between the said ditch & the dams and the afore mentioned land and a 4 foot ditch after the death of my wife Letitia to have and to hold her natural life time and to go to her children should she leave any should she not the same to go to the children of my daughter Julia Ann LEE. I also give and bequeath to said Elizabeth 1 bed and bedding & 1 cow & calf & increase.
6th Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Julia Ann LEE all the balance of my land to her and her heirs should she leave any if she should not leave any children the same to go to my daughter Elizabeth DOZIER children.
7th Item I desire my beloved children to unite in changing my road to the following place—turning down the dams running down to the 4 foot ditch between the lands herein bequeathed to my daughters. I desire my sons to cut or have cut sufficient timber to carry to the mill to pay my debts.
I hereby leave my son Peter DOZIER and my son in law James LEE my lawful executors and administrators to mutually settle my estate according to the requirements of the above will. In witness whereof I hereunto affix my name & seal this 27th day of January 1858.

The foregoing paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Peter DOZIER dec’d is exhibited in open court for probate by Peter DOZIER JR. one of the executors therein named and the due execution thereof is proved by the oaths & examinations of Isaiah ETHERIDGE & Wm. H. LASSELL the two subscribing witnesses thereto. It is thereupon considered by the court that the said paper writing and every part thereof is the last will and testament of the said Peter DOZIER, and the same is ordered to be recorded and filed. And thereupon the said Peter DOZIER one of the executors therein named and qualifies as such by taking the oath required by law. Recorded.Recorded: J.W. BAXTER, CCC
