Gedion Grimstead
June 26, 1888 - Aug. 5, 1891
In the name of God Amen. I Gedion GRIMSTEAD of Currituck county and State of North Carolina, being weak in body but sound in mind memory and understanding, Praise be God for the same do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following --
I give to my beloved wife Ann E. GRIMSTEAD all my real estate consisting of my home tract of land situated on Knotts Island for and during her naturl life and at her death then said land to go to my youngest son Charles W. GRIMSTEAD should my son Charlie died before he is 21 twenty one years old then my aforesaid home tract to be sold at public auction on the premises for cash, the proceeds of said sale to be turned over to my daughter Emily F. GRIMSTEAD and I do herewith nominate and appoint A.J. SMITH executer of this my last will and testiment in witness whereof I the said Gedion GRIMSTEAD hereunto set his hand and seal this the 26th day of June 1888.

Currituck County }A paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Gedion GRIMSTEAD, deceased, is exhibited before me, the undersigned, Clerk of the Superior Court for said County, by Ann E. GRIMSTEAD, widow of deceased, and the due execution thereof by the said Gedion GRIMSTEAD is proved by the oath and examination of Thomas F. ETHERIDGE & Wm. J. BEASLEY the subscribing witnesses thereto, who, being duly sworn, doth depose and say, and each for himself deposeth and saith that he is a subscribing witness to the paper writing now shown him purporting to be the last will and testament of Gedion GRIMSTEAD that the said Gedion GRIMSTEAD in the presence of this deponent, subscribed his name at the end of said paper writing, now shown as aforesaid, and which bears day of the 26th day of June 1888.
And the deponent further saith, that the said Gedion GRIMSTEAD the testator aforesaid, did, at the time of subscribing his name as aforesaid, declare the said paper writing so subscribed by him and exhibited, to be his last will and testament, and this deponent did thereupon subscribe his name at the end of said will as an attesting witness thereto, and at the request and in the presence of said testator. And this deponent further saith, that a the said time when the said testator subscribed his name to the said last will as aforesaid, and at the time of deponent's subscribing his name as an attesting witness thereto, as aforesaid, the said Gedion GRIMSTEAD was of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a will, and was not under any restraint to the knowledge, information or belief of this deponent: And further these deponents say not.

Currituck County } In re Estate of Gedion GRIMSTEAD, deceasedA paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Gedion GRIMSTEAD, decd., is exhibited in open court for probate by Ann E. GRIMSTEAD widow of deceased; and the due execution thereof by the said Gedion GRIMSTEAD, decd., duly proven by the oath and examination of Thomas ETHERIDGE and Wm. J. BEASLEY, subscribing witnesses thereto, and it is then shown to the satisfaction of the Court by said witnesses that the said Gedion GRIMSTEAD was at the time of making said will of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a will, and under no restraint to their knowledge, information or belief.
It is thereupon considered, adjudged and decreed that said proof is sufficient and according to law and that said paper writing is and contains the last will & testament of Gedion GRIMSTEAD, decd. And on motion it is ordered that said will be admitted to probate and recorded in the Book of Wills of Currituck County and as such filed as provided by law in the office of Clerk of the Superior Court of said county.
It is further ordered that said A.J. SMITH, Executor named therein, be allowed to qualify as executor as provided by law and enter upon the discharge of the duties imposed by said trust. Dated this the 5th day of August 1891.
