Richard Hodges
March. 2, 1748 - no probate attached [Gordon Jones states April Court 1749]

In the name of God Amen.

I Richard HODGES of the County of Currituck being very Sick and Weak but in Perfect Sence and memmory blessed be almighty God for it.  I the Said Richard HODGES Do make my Will in manner and forme following that is to say---

Item - I Give to my Daughter Frances BOWRIN one negroe Girl Called Phillis With all hir in Crease and one Ew and Lamb in full of her Portion.

Item - I Give & bequeath to my Dafter Sarah BURNHAM the mill and the Land belonging and the one part of the Land I Bought of Edward COX Joyning on the mill begining at the moueth of the branch Running a Long the branch to the Paster fence the then the Course of the old Line to the hed of it the Land the Said branch that James BURNHAM now Lives on to hir and her heirs Lawfully begotten of hir body for Ever and for Want of Such heirs to James BURNHAM dureing his Life and after his Decease to my Granson Josiah BOWRIN.

Item - I Give and bequeath to my Dafter Mary HODGES the Remainder Part of the Land I bought of Edward COX to her and her Heirs for Ever and one mare Called Phenix and four Ews and Lamb and two Cows and Calves with all there increase.  I give one bed & furniture to my Daughter Mary HODGES.

Item - I Give and bequeath to my Dafter Elizebeth HODGES that tract of Land I bought of Elisha COX to hir and her heirs for Ever & I Give unto my Dafter Elizabeth HODGES one negroe Girl Called Dinah and two Cows and Calves and two Ews and Lamb, with all there increase.  I give to my Daughter Elizebeth HODGES one bed & furniture.

Item - I Give and bequeath to my Dafter Uphan HODGES one tract of Land in black Water that I bought of Robert LAIN to hir and her heirs for Ever.  I Give unto my Dafter Uphan HODGES one negroe Girl Called Sarah and two Cows and Calves and two Ews and Lamb With all there in Crease.  I Give unto my Dafter Uphan HODGES one bed & furniture.

Item - I Give and bequeath to my Loving Wife Frances HODGES all the Rest of my negroes that I have not allreddy Given to hir During hir naturel Life and after hir Decease to be Equaly Devided amonst my Children that is to Say Frances & Sarah and Mary and Elizebeth and Uphan HODGES.

Item - I Give and bequeath to my Loving Wife Frances HODGES my mill and Stream in black Water and all the Rest of my Land that I Have not all Redy Given to hir During hir Life and after hir Discease to be Equaly Devided amongst my three Children that is Mary and Elizebeth and Uphan but if my Wife Should think fitt to Sell the Said mill and Land then my Desire is that She Should Sell it and have the fourth Part of the money and the Rest to be Equaly Devided amongst my three Dafters before mentioned.

Item - I Give and bequeath all the Rest of my Estate Within Dores and Without unto my Loving Wife Frances HODGES at her own disposial and I also appoint my trusty? Wife Frances HODGES whole and Sole Executrix of this my Last Will and Testement alowing this present Will and testement and no other Will by me heretofore maid as Witness my hand and Seal this Second Day of March one thousand Seven Hundred and forty Eight.
