Cornelius Jones

Secretary of State, N. C. Wills, 1663-1789

In the name of God amen I Cornelius JONES of the County of Corotuck Nor Carliner being very sick & week but of perfect mind & memory thanks be given to God theare fore Calling to mind the uncertainty or Instability of this transity life & knowing that it is appointed for all men once to Die I Doe make and ordaine this my last well & testament in manner & form as follows that is to say first & prenciplaly I recommend my soul into the Hands of Allmighty God that gavet nothing Doubting but at the general Reserection but to obtain Remision of all my sins throw the merets and mediation of my Lord & Savear Jeasus Christ my Body I give to the Earth to be Decently buered to the descretion of my Executor & Exectrix hear after named & for my worldly goods which allmighty God has be stowed upon me In this Life I give & bequeath in manner & form as followes after debts & funeral charges paid

Item I give & bequeath unto my son Willam JONES one Cow & one yoo & one sou & my gun

Item I give & bequeth unto my son Cornelius JONES my plantasion that I now Live upon and all my Land that I hould uppon Knots Island except that piece that I bought of Welles WICKER to hem and his Lawful Heiars forever and if my son Cornelius should Dye with out Lawful Heiars of his body then to fall to my youngest son Taylor JONES and his Laful Heiars for ever.

Item I give unto my son Cornelius JONES my Writen Desk one young mare & one gun & all the Catel & hogs & sheep that is of his mark & one poine Chest puter Dish one Bason six Spoons three plates and one feather bed and the furneture all ready in his pursesion & one iron pot & small trunk

Item I give and bequeath unto my son Taylor JONES my negro garl named Pursela she and hur increas to hem & his Heiars Lawfully begoten of his body and if my son Taylor Dyes With out Lawful Heiars then to fall to his mothers Heiars I give to my son Taylor JONES that pease of Land that I bought of Weeles WICKER to hem & his Lawful Heiars one iron pot & tramel & one puter Dish & two plats a porrenger & basen one Case of botels & hand mell and one Cow & calfe & yew & lam & one young hors Colt named Squier

Item I give unto my Daughter Rachel WHALE [or possibly WHABE] on puter Desh two plates one yeo a lam & ____[?]

Item I give unto my Daughter Esther WHITE one feather bed & ye furnetur belonging to it & on puter Desh two plates and one wernet Chest with Droyers & Wormeng pan the Chest & pan to be left with my Wife tel Dearth or mareg then ye said Easter to have them

Item I give unto my Daughter Rhoda BESLE [or possibly CASLE] one feather bed and the furneture be longing to it one iron pot two puter basons one Desh & porranger & plate all in hur purshon

Item I give unto my Daughter Sarah MOLBRON one feather bed & two puter Deshes & two basons two plates & porranger one Square tabel & one iron pot & tramell hooks all in hur purshon

Item I give unto my Daughter Bredget JONES one feather bed and the furneture belonging to it one iron pot & tramell hooks one wornet Chest & two puter Deshes & two plates and two basons & two porrangers one gould ring & one Cow and Calf yew & lam one small trunk

Item I lend all the rest of my Estate unto my Well beloved Wife Elesabeth JONES Boath Real and personal to Leve upon tel Death or marage then after Death or marage her Cheldren that is then a live as theay shal see feet to Devided it a mongst them if theare is aney of my Esate left with out Enventory or admenestration Ratyfying and Confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and testament Disanulling and making void all former Wills by me made heartofore making my Well beloved wife Elasabeth JONES and my son Cornelius JONES my hool Exectrix and Executor of this my Last will and testament as Witness my hand & seal this fortenth Day of August one thousand seven hundred and forty nine

    These may Certifie that William WHITE John ANSELL and William DUDLY Subscribing Evidences to the within Will Appeared in Open Court & Made Oath on the Holy Evangelist that they were Present & Saw Cornelius JONES Sign Seal Publish & Declare the within to be & Contain his last Will & Testament and that the said Cornelius JONES was then & at that Time of Sound & Disposeing Memory. Then also appeared Elisabeth JONES (one of the Executors mentioned in sd. Will the other Refusing to Qualifie) in open Court and took the Exors oath in due form of Law
    Ordered that the Honble. Nathl. RICE Esqr. Secretary of said province have Notice thereof that Letters testamentory Issue thereon as the Law Directs
