Currituck County Wills
In the name of God, Amen. I Charles LINDSEY of Currituck County and State of North Carolina, being weak and low in body, but of perfect mind and memory, calling to mind the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death, do make and publish this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say, first of all I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God, and my body to the ground to be buried in a decent manner, at the discretion of my executor, and as for what worldy goods it hath pleased God to bless me with, I dispose of as follows Viz.
Item. I lend unto my Mother Susanna SIMPSON, my land and house whereon she now lives, during her natural life, and after her decease, I give and bequeath unto my Sister Dinah LINDSEY, all my land and houses, that I possess, to her and her heirs forever. I give unto my Sister Dinah LINDSEY one cow called Hart and her yearling, one chest, to her and her heirs.
Item. I give and bequeath to my half Brother James SIMPSON one cow and calf called Poid, one bull and all the property which I bought that was Alexander SIMPSONs which was sold at vendue. I give to the said James SIMPSON and his heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath unto Daniel SHANNON all the property that I hold which I bought at his vendue, which was sold for to pay off his debts and his his [sic] forever. I also give and bequeath to Daniel SHANON the sum of twelve dollars out of the money that is due me at my death.
Item. I lend unto James SIMPSON one feather bed and furniture during his life, and after his decease I give the same bed and furniture to my Sister Dinah LINDSEY. I give to Alexander SIMPSON my gun called a musket and one steel trap. After my just debts are paid, I give to my Mother the sum of thirty five dollars out of the money that is due me at my death, and all the remainder of my estate both personal and real, I give and bequeath to my Sister Dinah LINDSEY and her heirs forever.
Lastly I nominate, constitute and appoint my friend Simeon SAWYER my whole and sole executor to this my Last Will and Testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine.
