State of North Carolina
    Currituck County

In the name of God Amen.  I Jane B. LINDSEY of the State and County aforesaid being now in health and of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make publish and declare this as my last will and testament in manner & form as follows to wit.

   Item 1st I give and bequeath to my sister Elizabeth CARVER wife of Job CARVER now living in Wake County N.C. negro woman Mary to her, her executors, administrators and assigns forever.

   Item 2nd I give and bequeath to my niece Grizzell SANDERSON daughter of my sister Elizabeth negro girl Betty now about twelve years, together with the increase of said Betty from the date of this instrument to her, her heirs, executors administrators and assigns forever.

   Item 3rd I give and bequeath to Miles Edward CARVER my nephew son of Job CARVER negro boy Doctor to him his executors administrators & assigns forever.

   Item 4th I give and bequeath to my niece Mary Jane CARVER daughter of Job CARVER negro girl Patsey together with her increase from the date of this instrument to her her executors administrators and assigns forever.

   Item 5th I give and bequeath to my son A.H. Lindsey negro woman Hannah & Bashaba her daughters with their increase from the date of this instrument the said A.H. Lindsay is however to pay to my son D.M.D. Lindsay one third of the value of said negroes at my death and to my daughter Virginia L. SILVESTER one third of the value of said negroes at my death to him his executors administrators and assigns forever.

   Item 6th I give and bequeath to my son A.H. Lindsey negro man Nelson and his wife Alsey with the understanding and directions that should the said Nelson & Alsey within two years after my death desire to go to Liberia then they are to be sent there, and in case they go to Liberia I direct that my executor pay their expences there and give to said Nelson the sum of Five Hundred Dollars in money in addition to paying their expences of sending him and his wife to Liberia.

   Item 7th All the rest and residue of my estate of every kind and description real personal and mixed I give and bequeath to my three children A.H. Lindsey, D.M.D. Lindsey and Virginia L. SILVESTER equally to be divided between them share & share alike to them their heirs executors administrators and assigns forever.

   Item 8th I nominate constitute and appoint Wm. F. MARTIN of Elizabeth City, N.C. executor of this my last will and testament.  Witness my hand & seal this the 9th day of November AD. 1857.
