In the name of God Amen. I John MACKIE being of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be God do this the 12th day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two, make and publish this my Last Will and Testament in manner following, that is to say.

First I lend to my Daughter Sarah BELL the use of the tract of land lying on Currituck Shore, that I bought of JamesS PHILLIPS: bound on the south west by the main road, on the north by Thomas MERCERs line, one the east by the river & on the south east by John WILLIAMS land together with twenty odd acres adjoining said tract that I purchased of Thos. MERCER, to her during her natural life, and after her death to her child or children forever. I also lend to my Daughter Sarah BELL the use of negroes Lucy with her three children Melvina, Charles and Bob during her natural life, and after her death to her child or children forever. I give and bequeath to my Daughter Sarah BELL all the household and kitchen furniture that she is now in possession of.

Secondly. I give and bequeath to my Daughter Judith all that part of Mackies Island contained within the following bounds, beginning at a crop fence situate about fifteen or twenty yards northwardly of a live oak stump, that stand in a northwardly and westwardly direction from the house that I live in, then running eastwardly down said fence to the south east course to the edge of the marsh, where my line and the line of Evan JONES heirs intersect each other, thence down the line of the said heirs to a white oak, a corner tree, thence a northwardly and eastwardly direction to Perry POMTRIN(?) back marsh thence a straight course to a place called Jims Bridge in a back creek, thence the various courses up the crek to where it workes the ditch, thence a northwardly course down the ditch to Bellires Bay, thence along the edge of the marsh to Half Point, thence along the shore a westwardly course to Little Point and from Little Point along the bank head to the first station with all the improvements there to belonging to her and heirs forever.

Thirdly I give and bequeath to my Daughter Elizabeth all the residue of land that I own on Mackie's Island to her and her heirs forever.

Fourthly. I give and bequeath to my Daughters Judith, Elizabeth, Sarah and Margaret all my fishing land marsh and shoals, commonly known by the name of Raymon's marsh and Herring Island share and share alike to them and their heirs forever.

Fifthly. I give and bequeath to my Daughters Sarah, Judith, Elizabeth and Margaret all my salt land that was formerly Thomas BRAYs Dec'd. together with all my salt pans and kettles.

Sixthly. I give and bequeath to my Grand Son Lycurgus BELL fifty acres of land out of the tract I purchased of James PHILLIPS to be laid off next to the land that belongs Jeremiah PERKINS Frances MORRIS heirs and Robert BELL and the residue of said tract of land and cypress swamp I bequeath equally to my Daughters Sarah Judith and Elizabeth.

Seventhly. I give and bequeath to my Daughters Judith Elizabeth and Margaret all my household and kitchen furniture, that is now on Mackies Island to them and their heirs forever.

Eighthly. It is my will and desire that all my negroes (except those lent to my Daughter Sarah BELL) be sold at a credit of six months and the money arising from the sale of said negroes I give and bequeath equally to my Daughters Judith, Elizabeth and Margaret, I also wish the whole of my stock consisting of horses, cattle, hogs and sheep to be sold on a credit of six months and the money arising from the sale of said stock I wish to be equally divided between my Daughters Judith Elizabeth and Margaret.

I also wish my large flat sail boat and punt and 3 canoes all my seine nets and fish slands all my crop and every thing not given away to be sold on a credit of six months and the money arising from the sale thereof, after paying my just debts I give and bequeath equally to my Daughters Judith Elizabeth and Margaret.

And I hereby make and ordain my worthy friend Gideon C. MARCHANT Executor and my Daughter Judith executrix of this my Last Will and Testament. In witness where of I the said John MACKIE have to this my Last Will and Testament set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
