Mar. 6, 1871 - Proved June 13, 1871

I Sarah O NEAL of the County of Currituck and state of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence, do make and declare this my last will and testament in maner & form that is to say, first - that my son Thomas O NEAL and Caroline BEASLEY and my daughter Sally WHITEHALL shall provide for my body a decent burial sutable to the wishes of my relations and friends and pay all expenses, together with my just debts, howsoever and to whomsoever owing, out of my estate.

Item.  I give and bequeath to my daughter Caroline BEASLEY one tract of land whereon I now live with the buildings bounded as follows: on the north by lands [of] Zackiriah DOXEY and others on the west by the lands of Daniel LINDSEY and others on the south by the lands of Thomas WHITEHALL to the main road thence with the road to said DOXEY line to have and hold to her and her heirs in fee simple for ever.  I give and bequeath to my daughter Caroline BEASLEY and my daughter Sally WHITEHALL and my son Thomas O NEAL one tract of land on the east side of the road down to the marsh field, equily to be divided betwen my children, Caroline, Sally & Thomas bounded as follows on the south by Thomas WHITEHALL land on the east by marsh field on the north by said DOXEY on the west by the main road to WHITEHALLs line, and all of my marsh land on grandies island I give and bequeath to my daughter Caroline & Sally WHITEHALL & Thomas O NEAL, the marsh land to be equally divided as the other tract that I gave them my children, to have and to hold to them and their heirs in fee simple for ever.

I give and bequeath to David O NEAL, the son of Thomas O NEAL, JU. one peace of land cald the marsh field bounded as follows on the south by the land of WHITEHALL on the east by Dowdys creek on the north by Z. DOXEY line to have and to hold, to him and his heirs in fee simple for ever.

In witness whereof, I, the said Sariah O NEAL do hereunto set my hand and seal, this March the sixth day AD 1871.

Signed, sealed, published and declared by the said Sarah O NEAL to be her last will and testament in the presence of us, who, at her request and in her presence do subscribe our names as witnesses thereto.

[On the back of will is written: Proved June 13 - 1871.  Recorded Pages 15-16]

[NOTE: In 1840 Sally Oneal is head of household and living between Zachariah Doxey and Thos. Whitehall.  Her age was 40-50.  I was unable to find her in 1850 but in 1860 she is living with her daughter and son-in-law, Sarah & Thomas Whitehall, in the Knotts Island District of Currituck County.  She is listed as Sarah "Neal" and is age 65.  By 1870 Sarah is living in Poplar Branch Twp. with her assumed daughter, Caroline (age 40).  Sarah is listed as age 80.]
