In the name of God Amen. I James OWENS of the county of Currituck and state of North Carolina being low in health but of sound disposing mind and memory do make and publish this to be my last will thereby revoking all other wills made by me.
Item - I lend my wife Keziah OWENS the tract of where on I now live commencing at graves and at the line between Samuel OWENS and running the main road a northerly course to a ditch adjoining the land of Isaac OWENS land thence along the ditch to a chestnut tree then southly course along a ditch to Samuel OWENS line then along Samuel OWENS line to the main road on the first station, during her widowhood or natural life.
Item - I lend to my wife one third part of my woodage land during her natural life or widowhood.
Item - All my island land I give to my son Isaac OWENS and to my son James M. OWENS to be equally divided between them.
Item - Give my wife a years provisions possibly.
Item - I give to my wife one negro woman by the name of Susan.
Item - My two boys ______ and Jordan be hired out in 1855.
Item - My will is that all my property be equally divided between all my children except ________ is to pay to my Executors to sum of fifty dollars also Capt. Frederick _______ is to pay to my said Executors the sum of fifty dollars.
Item - I give to my wife one small canoe.
Item - I give the land that I have lent to my wife at her death or marriage then the aforesaid land to equally divided between my son James M. OWENS and daughter Rebecca OWENS.
Item - My will is that all my lands in Tyrrell County be sold by my Executors except my Juniper Swamp called land and that I leave my son Isaac OWENS and my wife to have a privilege to get rails and posts and shingles and any timber for her own use.
Item - My will is that if my Flat ______ bring the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars to be sold by my Executors.
(Some confusion to the next Item, appears the word wife was left out)
Item - I lend to my during of her natural life all my household property of every kind and also the kitchen furniture and on her death to be divided between all of my children.
Lastly - I hereby make my son Isaac OWENS my Executor.
Signed in the presents of us this the 3rd of November 1854.
